A Microsoft Store listing for "The Red Door" appears to point to an internal alpha currently running for 2020's Call of Duty game.

The mysterious listing names Activision as its publisher, and is in the Shooter category, with a whopping download size of 81.65 GB. The description reads "There is more than one truth. If you go looking for answers, be ready to question everything and accept that nothing will ever be the same. The Red Door awaits, do you dare step through it?". It was also spotted on PS4Patches last month with the words "COD2020INTALPHA1" in the content ID.

Call of Duty 2020 is rumoured to be Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War from Treyarch. The red locked door and maze in the imagery could be hinting towards the cold war, with the Soviet Union often associated with the colour red, and the lock and maze hinting at the secrecy and espionage of the era. Alternatively, it could be nothing of reference at all, just something meant to look like a generic title and not a Call of Duty game.

Either way, if internal alpha testing began as early as June, we might expect to see the game revealed soon. Call of Duty titles are normally revealed before now, but with the disruption of a global pandemic, the cancellation of E3, and with Call of Duty Warzone launched earlier this year, Activision may not be in as much of a rush to show off the game in the series.

  • Okay seems a little interesting.
  • I would imagine its called red door after the wonderful lyrics of trayarchs favorite song Paint it black
  • Yeah we’ve typically had COD reveals in May. This is pretty late for a reveal. Suppose it doesn’t matter too much seeing it’s COD and Covid has obviously caused disruptions. I’m still kind of skeptical how it’s all going to work out. I’m not convinced Treyarch can build a good experience going back to the 2 year dev cycle as well as using the new engine. And Activision have said Warzone will continue. Not sure how that integration will work. Does Treyarch take over it? Will the assets be shared between Treyarch and IW?
