Microsoft has announced that the Backward Compatibility program is coming to a close. As the company looks forward to the launch of their next console, Scarlett, in 2020 they have decided to shift focus on ensuring all of the current BC games, as well as all Xbox One games, will be playable without issue on Scarlett.

Due to this, Microsoft's BC team will no longer be creating emulators for Original Xbox and Xbox 360, meaning this is the last batch of Backward Compatible games we will see for the time being. Microsoft has gone out with a bang, however, and have announced 23 new additions to the program, as well as 8 newly enhanced games for Xbox One X.

See the complete list below, and an expanded explanation of the program's close on the Xbox Wire. These games will be coming to the BC program over the next several days, and the game Too Human will be available for free as a parting gift.

I will miss posting these articles and seeing what new games became backward compatible each week. I will especially lament the games that I'll have to dig my Xbox 360 out to play. However, it's nice to go out with three JRPGs!

The final tally for the backward compatibility program will clock in at 611 games playable on Xbox One, spanning Xbox and Xbox 360.
