Final Fantasy VII Launches for Xbox One in Late-March

It looks like seminal 1997 PlayStation One RPG Final Fantasy VII will finally be arriving on Xbox One next month, with a few extra features not present in the original release. Introducing the world to Cloud Strife, an elite Shinra soldier turned mercenary, and his giant Buster sword, FF VII is considered by many to be the best in the series.

And while everyone has their own favourite Final Fantasy game, FF VII was the one where I got started with Square Enix's behemoth RPG series. This version of Final Fantasy VII is a port of the original PSone classic, with extra features including a 3x speed mode, ability to turn battle encounters off, and a 'battle enhancement mode'.

Final Fantasy VII will be available for Xbox One on 26th March 2019, priced $15.99/£12.79 (you can pre-order it via the Xbox Store here), while Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster launches on 16th April and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age hits Xbox One from 30th April. It's a smorgasbord of Final Fantasy!

  • I am sorely tempted, I was the greatest game of the PS1. But looking at the pics, I wonder if It wouldn’t live up to the memory.
  • Already pre-ordered. Can't wait to play this great game again. It's been so long. :D
  • definitely on this bad boy, never really gamed after the megadrive days till i played this at my brothers, instantly bugged the shit out of my dad to buy me a ps1 and this for my birthday which was 3 weeks away, now i get to play it all again and hunt cheevos, awesome :)
  • Cheevo for emerald weapon ? Hahaha
  • @4 The ps4 version has a trophy for ruby, diamond, and emerald weapons and I'd have to assume the list is going to be the same (especially after FF9's list).
  • Sure, I've always wanted to play this one because it's said to be the greatest but I have reservations. One, I'm just tired of all the story based reading in these games. I'm halfway through IX and just getting tired because I feel like I'm reading a book half the time. The graphics also don't help. Maybe a dumb excuse but yeah. More so. I've waited some 22 years to play Final Fantasy VII. Considering the wide release of (almost) all the previously PlayStation Exclusive titles in the series, I really want to believe Final Fantasy VII Remake will make it to Xbox One eventually. Even if that takes a couple of years I would almost rather just wait than face the original as a chore. It's on my bucket list, I just don't want to finish it with a "meh" feeling about it because I'm burnt out on the consistent minor annoyances you expect to face when returning to that generation. With all that said, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is pre-ordered.
  • This is the Remastered PC version, not the Full Remake that is in the works. If it were to come to Xbox, it would probably be the XB2.
  • @7 Yeah that Remake isn't coming out this generation. I almost guarantee that. Considering how long it takes Square Enix to release games and the fact they scrapped everything Cyber Connect 2 helped them make to start from scratch, we won't be getting that game for years. Which is probably for the best since it'll be a much better game on better hardware. If they optimize it properly. lol And I would bet we'll get it on both consoles at the same time. They haven't done a main line Final Fantasy that didn't launch on both since 13. And with 7 being so major a title, I doubt they'll consider it not main line like an HD collection. It'd be on the scale of something like Kingdom Hearts 3 or FFXV. Could be wrong. But I hope I'm not.
  • @1 - I bought my Playstation for FF7 and it has to be one of my favourite RPGs ever. I bought the game again on Steam and was so disappointed in how bad the graphics had aged. 15 minutes later, I was sucked into the gameplay and the story and didn't look back until I had completed it and all the achievements! It's still awesome.
  • I was excited for the FF7 remake...... then I saw that they changed the turn based combat and lost all my excitement for it. The excitement is back on with this because you know, FF7.... with achievements!!
  • One of the best games of all time, but it hasn't agreed well. Until they do a remaster/remake (which I think is still several years off, if it happens at all), it's strictly for nostalgic purposes.
  • *aged, not agreed
  • This generation is going to last awhile. FFVII remake will come to ps4. Hopefully Xbox someday. But I can wait.
  • @8 Well it's exclusive to PS4 and PC for the moment. It'll probably stay that way for a while. Still haven't even gotten the KH HD remasters even though KH3 is on Xbox One.
  • My brother and I both killed Emerald will ease He had Cait Sith's limit that kills all enemies pop up and that ended the battle, and for me one of the little eyes hit Tifa and left her with 7777 HP, so after about 20-25 minutes of nonstop hits Tifa killed Emerald.
  • i would give anything for ff8. it was what got me into RPG's. i played it over and over until i burned out the lens on my ps1.
