Introduction:
What happens when you combine both New York City and a variety of monsters? A television series and an arcade game called Ugly Americans: Apocalypsegeddon. In this game, you can control one of four main characters from the television show. These characters are Mark Lilly, Callie Maggotbone, Leonard Powers and Francis Grimes. Each character has his/her own stats that can be upgraded when a play levels up in-game (Max level is "60"). Also, each character has his/her own "special attack". Play as your favorite character from the television show and have fun destroying the city and monsters that are trying to destroy you. The gameplay and controls are easy to learn and the game is considered a "twin-stick Shoot'em up". Let's all get on the bus and head towards New York City for a new adventure.
Story:
It seems there is trouble in New York City and it's the job of the D.O.I. to take care of it. They head to Central Park to find a concert playing and that the lead singer looks a lot like Callie. It seems like the lead singer is named Desdemona and she's part of something called the, "End of Days" that could destroy the world. Callie will soon find out that she and Desdemona have more in common then how similar they look like one another. The gang learns that Desdemona is going to marry Twayne as part of the "End of Days" ceremony. Can the gang stop Desdemona and the "End of Days"?
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
You can either purchase the game of play the free trial here.
There are eleven cases (cases are considered stages in this game) where you fight a variety of monsters to complete the game's main story. There are also various weapons, power-ups and baby demons to find that are useful to beat the game. When you level up you earn points and these points can go towards to one of six different stats, like health, strength, etc. The highest level that can be earned in this game is "level 60" and the best weapon seems to be the "demon head". Some grinding might be necessary to complete certain cases solo, but if your playing online with other players, then beating the game will be much simpler. Sticking with one character is a wise decision if you want to have a high leveled character to beat the game solo.
Overall, just keep playing the game and you'll be high enough level in no time to beat the final boss. Any stage can be re-visited, so grinding levels shouldn't be hard.
Multiplayer:
This game can hold up to "four" max players offline or online. To get every achievement in the game you must beat the entire game online with other players to earn the online achievement, "Embrace Diversity".
Mop-Up:
The achievements in this game overall are easy to earn. It might be hard to earn the only online achievement if you get this game late, since the player population for this game is low to none. The best bet to get the online achievement now is to make a thread in the Official XBA Boosting Session Information & Discussion forum. Online players can also help you beat the game if you can't beat the game playing solo and will help you level up at the same time.
Conclusion:
The game overall is fun to play, but even better with up to three other friends or online players. Doing everything in this game is worth it, since you can unlock scenes from the main game, deleted scenes, an actual episode from the television series, and more. These can be found in the "Extras" menu from the main menu. The game feels like an episode from the show, contains humor and some mature themes. If you loved the television show Ugly Americans in the past then you don't want to miss out on this game.
