Introduction:
Saw 2 is a fairly simple but amusing game with a few tricky puzzles, and some clunky button press sequences. If you follow both my guide and Jeffy x360a's collectible guide, you should have little to no trouble getting the full 1000.

Step 1 - Get the easy stuff out of the way
Disconnect from XBox Live and do the Christmas and Halloween date related achievements. Then reconnect to XBox Live and punch in the classic Konami code. Finally, select Credits and watch the entire game credits (this can also be done once you complete the game for the first time).

Step 2 - First playthrough - Normal difficulty
To minimize the amount of time you will spend playing the game, it is recommended that you make sure Campbell survives the plank at the end of case 1. This will allow you to successfully use the “Flashback” method for the second ending achievement. To do this though, you also cannot use Flashback to replay any levels until you complete this playthrough. If you flashback during this run, the game will revert back to the default ending and you will need to play twice.

Other than that, all you need to worry about in this playthrough of the game is getting the collectibles. Jeffy x360a wrote a five star collectible guide, and you should follow it by the letter. If you miss a certain collectible it is exceedingly difficult to pinpoint which one was missed, so follow the guide! It can be found here. While doing this playthrough you will have to save the man (see "Compassion") and will most likely snag a few achievements for beating best times in puzzles. If you don't get them all, no worries, I'll cover those in a second.

Step 3 - Flashback for puzzle times and missing collectibles
At this point, you should have all your puzzle pieces, Billy dolls, audio tapes and case files. You've beaten the game once, got the Path of Blood achievement and now you have access to the Flashback feature. Any normal difficulty puzzle times you didn't beat on your actual run through of the game can be flashbacked to and beaten. Also, take a quick flashback to the puzzles and select Insane difficulty. This will snag you all the achievements in the game except for Path of Flesh. In the guide I have listed where the puzzles can be easily accessed and the method for restoring checkpoints and beating the puzzles.

Step 4 - Flashback for alternate ending
Now you will need to load up Chapter 1 and KILL Campbell by falling off the plank. Wait until Chapter 2 loads just to be safe. Then load up Chapter 8 and complete it fully.

Conclusion:
There you have it. The puzzles can be tricky, but if you follow the guide, you can easily flashback and restore checkpoints and grind them out. As far as collectibles go, I can't say enough that you should follow Jeffy's guide from the beginning. It can be difficult to pinpoint an item missed here and there. Enjoy.

Jeffy x360a wrote a collectibles guide that if followed, will get you all 14 of the collectible related achievements in the game. Be sure to follow it closely because if you miss one, it is very difficult to figure out which one you missed. Also, it is important to note that if you collect some and die before reaching a checkpoint you will need to recollect them again. The items that are easily missed are #51 (puppet), #52 (puzzle piece), #76 (puzzle piece) and #86 (puzzle piece). These item numbers are from his guide.

Secret achievements

  • Freed Sarah From The Trap

Story related and cannot be missed.

In Case 4 - Sarah, this is the final puzzle with the junkie Sarah in a cage surrounded by electrified water. Once you drain the pool and shut off the power, you will have to climb up to her and synchronize pipe fittings together to drain the tank. This puzzle is a bit tricky and I would recommend doing the far right pipe first since it is hardest. After that the other two will be a walk in the park.

  • Freed Joseph From The Trap

Story related and cannot be missed.

In Case 5 - Joseph, this is the final puzzle with the dirty cop Joseph in the Vice Machine. The puzzle is basically an extended Kaleidoscope mini game.

  • Freed Carla From The Trap

Story related and cannot be missed.

In Case 6 - Carla, this is the final puzzle with the nurse Carla in the Elevator Trap. The puzzle is similar to the light switch number puzzles in the game except instead of putting the numbers in order, you must balance the totals of either side. Figure out the difference in totals and switch the numbers that have a difference equal to half of the difference in the totals and you lock one hitch in. Repeat until all the hitches are locked.

  • Freed Solomon From The Trap

Story related and cannot be missed.

In Case 7 - Solomon, this is the final puzzle with Solomon hanging from a cart above some gas pipes. The first stage is a single push to the second stage but be sure to grab the puzzle piece to the left in the tunnel before pushing him through. The second stage is another cart moving puzzle like the rest in the game where you must move carts to clear a path to push him through. The third stage is the big pain. You will need to solve a TV memory match puzzle to open the door and free him. Just remember that you are matching two related pictures this time, not two of the same. For instance, shotgun shells match the shotgun, film roll matches the camera. All through this puzzle you will be moving him from one burner to the next when they ignite. Don't worry, your matches stay equipped when you back out of the TV game to move him.

  • Freed Henry From The Trap

Story related and cannot be missed.

In Case 3 - Henry, this is the final puzzle with the cop in the chair and a gun in his mouth. It's basically an extended Lights Out mini game.

  • Completed The Eye Surgery Minigame

Story related and cannot be missed.

As soon as the game starts, you will be in control of Campbell. Follow the button prompts indicated on the TV's to your right and you are done. Achievement unlocked.

  • Saved A Person That You Didn't Have To

In Case 3 - Henry, when you are in control of barefoot Michael, you will come to a room that says "Follow The Rules" on the wall. A cut-scene will play, and you will have the option of saving the man from the scene. Just complete the simple number swap puzzle on the wall to your right and achievement unlocked. I would strongly advise you complete this because there is a collectible you won't have access to if the man dies.

  • Story related and cannot be missed.

In Case 8 - Michael, you will periodically do the bullet dodge / cover to cover thing while Joseph the cop shoots at you. Eventually you will chase him up a flight of stairs and he will stop in a dead end hallway. Sprint at him and follow the onscreen button prompts and you will end up shooting him in his head and unlocking this achievement.

  • Barry Died

Although not really story related, this achievement can't be missed. At a certain point in Case 6 - Carla, you will be moving carts around and Barry will be up high somewhere throwing molotov cocktails at you. If you just ignore him and continue on your path, he will continue to throw them at you and end up burning himself instead. I know it sounds weird, but it happens to me every time I replay the level.

  • Zeke Died

Story related and cannot be missed.

In Case 7 - Solomon, you will come to a point where you open a door and Zeke the Slicer, will attack you. Note that this is actually the second time he attacks. After a quick sprint through the hallways, stopping only to grab the puzzle piece from the stairwell, you will shove a bookcase in front of a doorway and block him. Exit this room to the very next room. Hit the lever on the floor and mash the button to get the spike panels to turn. When Zeke comes running through the door in between the panels, they will crush him and you'll be 15 richer.

  • Subdued "The Bullish Man"

Story related and cannot be missed.

In Case 6 - Carla, you will come to a fenced in room that you must enter and press a button. Once again The Rammer will attack you and this time you need to stand in front of the electrified panels of fencing and dodge, causing him to run into them and get zapped. After about three or four of those he will finally go down for good.

  • Donovan Died

Story related and cannot be missed.

In Case 8 - Michael, you will come to a room with shipping boxes and another Rammer with hedgehog spikes in his chest. The first time you fought him you had to get him stuck in the wooden boxes and hit him with weapons. This time, if you run around you will find a crane control with a wooden box near it. Dodge and get him stuck in the wood, grab the crane control, which already has a box on it, position it over him and drop it on his spiky head. After he dies be sure to lift the box again and search his body for the key you need.

Use the method described here to both ending achievements on a single playthrough.

  • Campbell Did Not Survive His Test

Complete the game and receive the “A” ending.

    Spoiler Warning!
In the first case, Campbell must not reach the elevator. Then, at the end of the game, Michael will reach the elevator and survive giving you the “A” ending.

Use the method described here to get both ending achievements on a single playthrough.

  • Defeated "The Bullish Man"

Story related and cannot be missed.

In the first case, while playing as Campbell, you will come outside and a cut-scene will play introducing you to the first spike headed guy known as The Rammer. Defeating him is as easy as hitting the elevator button, standing in front of it, and dodging to the side as he is charging you. He will fall into the open elevator shaft and the double doors across the way will open.

  • Escaped "The Bullish Man"

Story related and cannot be missed.

In Case 4 - Sarah, you will be once again be confronted by The Rammer. This time you will have to stand near a crumbling wall, on top of an “X” on the floor. Dodging from this location will cause him to slam into the wall. After about three or four slams into the wall, he will break through it and fall into nowhere.
