Introduction:
Welcome to King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match, an SNK arcade title with all of the familiar fighters from the series (and from multiple other fighting games) pooled together, along with some new faces. This game comes with a story mode, an endless mode, challenge mode, and online versus mode, all of which will be required to get the completion. Thankfully, this game features the ability to program macros for your characters, meaning you can set an entire combo to the press of a single button. You can also manipulate game settings in your favor, making the majority of this completion very easy. The only difficulty comes in Challenge Mode, where there are pre-set challenges to complete. Many are very easy with the use of macros, but a few require some amount of skill. Far less than your average fighting game though, making this a pretty simple completion for a fighting game. Let's get started.

Macros Explained:
The most important part of this guide is macros, so this section will explain what they are, how they work, and how to set them up, since they are what makes this game a 3/10 in difficulty. Without them, it'd easily be an 8/10 or more. Macros are programmed strings of inputs that are all assigned to the press of a single button. With the default controller layout, that button is . So whenever you set up a macro and save it (called "Commands" in this game), you can press to use that macro. Also note that when you create a macro, you create it for a specific character and save it for that character. This means that if you pick, for example, Ralf, and set up a macro for him and save it, you can then choose another character, set up an entirely different macro for them and save it, and your macro for Ralf won't be overwritten. You can only have one macro per character though.

Now on to how to create a macro. From the main menu, select Practice Mode. Choose the character you want to set up a macro for, and choose any opponent. Once done, you'll be put at the Practice Mode menu. Scroll down and choose Command from the menu. This is where you can set up your macros. Choose Edit from this new menu. This is where you can manually select the inputs you want. There will always already be a macro there, but since it isn't the one you want, press repeatedly to delete all the inputs and clear it out. Now you can simply use the keys on the screen to select the buttons you want. For example, take this macro: D, DR, R, D, DR, S=(R, LK), N[40]. This is the format I have used for macros in all of the guide and challenges. To input this, select the Down arrow, then select the diagonally down-right arrow, then the Right arrow, then the Down arrow again, diagonally down-right arrow again, and then select the S button. Doing so brings up a little inset with 5 blank spaces. The first blank space is where you can select a direction, and the other four blanks are where you can select up to four different attack buttons. So for this example macro above, set the first blank to the Right arrow, and the second blank to the button that says LK. These are toggled by pressing up and down on . After setting up the S button, the input is the N symbol in the middle of the arrows. You'll notice the macro above has [40] after the N. The default number in brackets is always 1, so I don't bother writing that. To change the value in brackets for an input, press and then use to increase the number to whatever you want it set at. When you're done, accept your macro and then choose to Exit Game. It will ask you if you want to change your command. Choose yes to save your macro, and you're all set.

Story Mode:
One full and one partial playthrough will make all achievements in this mode very easy to obtain. Follow the solution in the The King of Fighters (20G) achievement solution for how to very quickly and easily beat Team Play, unlocking CHAMPION (10G) and The King of Fighters (20G) as well as Omega Rugal as a playable character. Next, refer to Unnamed Challenger (15G) for a relatively easy way to unlock this last achievement in this mode. A little skill will be required for this achievement, but thankfully you're able to turn the difficulty all the way down, your defense all the way up, and your opponent's all the way down, making it pretty easy even with minimal skill. With those three achievements done, that finishes up Team Play mode.

Endless Mode:
After completing The King of Fighters (20G) and unlocking Omega Rugal, you're ready for Endless Mode, which will now be a piece of cake with Omega Rugal. Refer to Veteran Fighter (30G) for a macro to set up for Omega Rugal that'll allow you to breeze through all 65 opponents in Endless Mode and unlock all three achievements tied to this mode.

Challenge Mode:
This is the toughest part of the game and the only portion that presents any real challenge for this completion. Thankfully, almost all of the challenges can very easily be completed with macros. Some of them do require some skill and/or actually fighting enemies, to an extent. Refer to the Challenger (20G) achievement solution for detail on every challenge.

Grinding and Mop Up:
After finishing all 30 normal challenges in Challenge Mode, you'll unlock Expert Challenge Mode. Completing all 20 Expert Challenges would be a massive pain and huge task, all to unlock the final unlockable character, Nightmare Geese. There is thankfully a much faster and less stressful way. Refer to Complete (20G) for how to do this. At some point, you can also get Raging Throw (15G) and Mighty Blow (20G) whenever you want.

Multiplayer:
Unsurprisingly, the online multiplayer community is dead for this game. The only way to get the achievements in it is to find a boosting partner. Post for one HERE. It'll take around 20 minutes per person to unlock the two online achievements with a boosting partner.

Conclusion:
With the use of macros, this game becomes far easier than it otherwise would be, even for those who are terrible at fighting games. It'll require a bit of work, and can get a little tedious meticulously typing in all of the required macros, but it beats all the frustration you'd face otherwise if you didn't have them. If you can make it through the 30 challenges and manage to find a boosting partner for the online achievements, this should be a pretty fast and easy completion.

There are 12 achievements with a total of 200 points

  • In TEAM PLAY; defeat any of Krizalid, C.Zero, Zero, or Igniz

This achievement is unlocked by simply beating the game in Team Play mode.

Refer to The King of Fighters (20G) for more information.
  • Defeat Ω Rugal and clear TEAM PLAY

Omega Rugal is encountered at the end of the Team Play mode if you beat the sub-boss (6th stage) without losing a fighter. With the strategy below, you will be able to breeze through all of the Team Play arcade mode, likely without taking any damage.

Go to Practice Mode and select Nameless as your character, against any opponent. Scroll down to Command and select it. Select Edit and then press over and over to delete all the inputs there. Now input the following inputs:

    D, R, DR, S=(LP, SP, LK, SP)

Exit the game and choose to change the Command to this. Once back at the main menu, go to Settings and then Battle Settings. Set the CPU LEVEL to 1, set the PLAY TIME to INFINITY, set SINGLE ROUND to 1, set 1P DEFENSE to 8, set 2P DEFENSE to 1, set 1P GAUGE to MAX, and leave 2P GAUGE at NORMAL. This gives you the highest defense and a permanently maxed gauge, and makes the CPU the easiest difficulty and the weakest defense.

Now go ahead and start up Team Play. Choose Nameless as your character, and then any other two (you'll never use them). Make sure you pick Nameless as your first fighter when you choose your order. For every fight, simply press to do a massive drill attack that spans the entire screen and does massive damage. No need to spam , just press it again right when the opponent stands up. You'll be able to breeze through every single fight, including the sub-boss fight, the final boss fight, and Omega Rugal, likely all without taking any damage at all. Once you complete the mode and defeat Omega Rugal, you'll unlock this achievement and Omega Rugal as a playable character.
  • Defeat Nameless the challenger

To unlock this achievement, you need to encounter Nameless in arcade mode, and then defeat him. In order to encounter him, you need to defeat two enemies with a MAX2 attack (the special attack you can only perform when your health is red, three blocks or less) before finishing the fourth stage, meaning you have 12 fighters to defeat to finish the fourth stage, and two need to be defeated with a MAX2 attack. Terry has a good and reliable MAX2 attack, so we'll set up a macro for his.

Go into Practice Mode and pick Terry as your character against any opponent. From the menu, select Command and then Edit, and then press repeatedly to delete all the inputs that are there. Now enter the following inputs:

    D, DR, R, D, DR, S=(R, LP, SP)

Choose to exit the game and save the command change. If you haven't already done so, set up a macro for Nameless as described in the The King of Fighters (20G) achievement solution. Also change the settings in the Options menu as described in that same achievement solution. With all of that done, start up Team Play. Choose Terry as your first character and Nameless as your second character, and then anyone as your third (you won't be using them). For each fight, start with Terry and have Nameless as your second. Fight your opponent using what little skill is needed (since the difficulty is set to lowest) to get their health down to around two or so blocks left. I found jump kicks and sweeping kicks to be very effective. Once their health is low, let them beat you up until Terry's health is down to three blocks. At this point, you can press to use your MAX2 attack. Terry will spring across the screen with a kick, and if it connects it should easily defeat your opponent. You need to finish off two opponents like this before beating your 12th opponent, so try it on every fight until you're successful. If Terry gets defeated at all along the way, you have Nameless as your second, and with him you can just press to use your insanely overpowered drill attack to tear through opponents.

Once you have at least 2 opponents defeated with a MAX2 attack, feel free to start each remaining fight with Nameless to plow through them with his drill macro that's set up. After the fourth stage (12th opponent), Nameless will show up. Simply destroy him with your drill attack as Nameless and you'll unlock this achievement.
  • Clear all Normal Challenges

There are a total of 30 challenges in Challenge Mode you'll need to complete to unlock this achievement. This is definitely the hardest achievement in the game, but with the right strategy and macro, most of the challenges are trivial, and only a few require some effort. There is too much detail to cover in this achievement solution, so refer to the following posts for details on how to complete all of the challenges relatively easily.

    'Challenges' thread
  • Unlock all playable characters

There are a total of 11 unlockable characters. Each is listed below along with the "normal" way to unlock all of them.

    1. Krizalid - Beat him in Team Play mode or in fight #61 in Endless mode
    2. Clone Zero - Beat him in Team Play mode or in fight #62 in Endless mode
    3. O. Zero - Beat him in Team Play mode or in fight #63 in Endless mode
    4. Igniz - Beat him in Team Play mode or in fight #64 in Endless mode
    5. Omega Rugal - Beat him in Team Play mode or in fight #65 in Endless mod
    6. EX Robert - Beat him in Endless mode, complete Normal Challenges 1-10, or fail Normal challenges 25 times
    7. EX Kensou - Beat him in Endless mode, complete Normal challenges 10-20, or fail Normal challenges 50 times
    8. EX Takuma - Beat him in Endless mode, complete Normal challenges 21-30, or fail Normal challenges 75 times
    9. Goenitz - Beat him in fight #58 in Endless mode
    10. Geese - Beat him in fight #59 in Endless mode
    11. Nightmare Geese - Complete Expert Challenge 20
As you can see from this list, unlocking the The King of Fighters (20G) and Veteran Fighter (30G) achievements for completing Team Play and beating all 65 opponents in Endless mode will unlock all playable characters except Nightmare Geese. The normal way to unlock Nightmare Geese is to complete Expert Challenge 20. However, there is a far easier and less stressful way to unlock him - fail at Expert Challenges 300 times. This may seem long and tedious, but it only takes around an hour to do, and has zero frustration. The Expert Challenges are incredibly difficult and will likely take you just as long to complete the final challenge as it would be to just fail 300 times on purpose.

To unlock the Expert Challenges, you first need to complete all Normal Challenges. No matter which method you choose for unlocking Nightmare Geese, you'll still need to complete all Normal Challenges first. Refer to Challenger (20G) for doing so. Once you've unlocked the Expert Challenges, you can attempt to work your way through them to get to the 20th one and try to complete it, or you can simply fail the first Expert Challenge over and over again. Simply load it up, let the enemy's projectile hit you, which fails the challenge, then press to retry. Repeat over and over for 300 fails to unlock Nightmare Geese. This will take around one hour if you continually mash the entire time (or are able to use a turbo controller, making it even easier to idle).
  • Defeat 10 opponents in ENDLESS

Refer to Veteran Fighter (30G) for more information.
  • Defeat 30 opponents in ENDLESS

Refer to Veteran Fighter (30G) for more information.
  • Defeat 65 opponents in ENDLESS

Before attempting this achievement, first unlock Omega Rugal as a playable character. Refer to The King of Fighters (20G) for doing so. Once he's unlocked, head into Practice Mode and select Omega Rugal as your character against any opponent. From the menu, select Command, then select Edit and press continually to delete all of the inputs there. Now input the following inputs:

    R, L, DL, D, DR, S=(R, SP)

Exit out and save the command change. Now head into Endless mode and select Omega Rugal as your character. Simply spam in a controlled fashion to perform the above macro, which does a strong projectile attack that the enemies tend to just walk into. Using this attack over and over, you will likely barely get hit, if at all, as you defeat 65 enemies in a row and unlock this achievement.
  • Take the perfect Roaring Sphere using Clark

Go to Practice Mode and choose Clark as your character. Choose Command from the menu and then Edit. Press to delete all the inputs there, then enter the following inputs. To input the number in brackets, after entering the input, press to be able to change the frame value.

    L, DL, D, DR, R, L, DL, D, DR, S=(R, LK, SK), N[6], R, D, S=(DR, SK), N[35], L, DL, D, DR, S=(R, SP), N[44], L, DL, D, DR, S=(R, SK), N[39], D, N[1], S=(D, SK), N[134], D, N[1], S=(D, LP, SP, LK, SK)

With all of that entered, exit Practice Mode (choosing to change command, when prompted) and load up Arcade Mode (either Team Play or Single Play). Choose Clark and then any other two characters, and choose to start with Clark. Let your opponent attack you until you only have 3 blocks or less left, then press to activate the macro. You'll dash toward your opponent and grab them, executing the combo and unlocking this achievement.
  • Get a clean hit with Galactica Vanguard using Ralf (available on Practice Mode)

Load up Practice Mode and choose Ralf. From the Practice Mode menu, set Health to "1P - Red" and set Gauge to "MAX." Then scroll down to Command and select it to input a macro. Choose the Edit option, and then press to delete what's already there. Now enter the following commands. To input the number in brackets, after entering the input, press to be able to change the frame value.

    D, DL, L, DL, D, DR, S=(R, LK, SK), N[100], D, DR, R, D, DR, R, S=(R, LP, SP)[232]

Once that's entered, press Start and then choose the Check option to load into the fight. Push your opponent all the way against the right side of the screen, and then press to execute the macro and unlock this achievement.
  • Win a total of 10 RANKED MATCH

Refer to Online Master (15G) for more information.
  • Win a total of 30 RANKED MATCH

Since the online portion of this game died out back around 2012, you will assuredly need to find a boosting partner to boost these wins. Once you have one, the process is very fast and easy. Have the winner select Ranked and Create Match, then have the loser select Ranked and Quick Match. It should pair you up no problem. Ready up, select your characters, and select your character order. As soon as the match actually starts, have the loser quit the game. This will count as a win for the winner. Repeat until you've accumulated 30 wins.
