Introduction:
Definitely the most difficult part of this game is the hardest difficulty. The majority of the achievements can be attained in one playthrough of the story, with the remainder only being accessible once beating the game and unlocking the other game mode and costumes. It is recommended that you play on Easy once, and then a second time on Formidable to get the last few points.

Step 1: Easy Mode
Playing through the game on Easy mode will help you get acquainted with the levels and the controls, which will help a great deal in the future. Each mission (of which there are 13) has a Primary Objective and a Hero Objective. You only need to pay attention to the primary objective to progress the story, but getting the Hero Objective in each mission will unlock the Excelsior! achievement as well. At the end of this playthrough you will have unlocked a minimum of 15 Achievements worth 370.

Step 2: One Man Army
Play through all the One Man Army missions that were unlocked during the single player game. They are all incredibly easy and shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes per level, and that’s if you’re not good at this game. There are five in total, each versus a different group of enemies on a different map from the single player story mode. Each one will also unlock a new set of armor for Iron Man, as well as giving you another five achievements worth 125, bringing you up to at least 495.

Step 3: Suit up!
From here, all that’s left are Suit-specific Achievements (Hulk Smash!, etc.), those relating to non-mission-specific scenarios (Pugilist, Impenetrable, Your Own Medicine, etc), and non-Objective-related achievements in the various missions. You can complete many of these in any of the later missions, and indeed you should have already got some of them unintentionally. The only ones that might provide a problem are “Air Superiority” and possibly “An Object in Motion” You’ll get 17 Achievements and 255 leaving you with a total of 37 achievements and 850.

Step 4: Formidable Difficulty
If you did play on Easy, then you’ll need to play through once more on Formidable to get the last two Achievements, which should be Hero and Superhero. At the end you’ll have all 1000. If you need to, you can play once on Normal mode just for Hero and then a third time on Formidable to finish this game off.

Conclusion:
This game is – theoretically – an easy 1000; you just have to be good enough to get through the Formidable difficulty. At the very least, it’s an easy 850, which isn’t bad for a movie tie-in. There are plenty of Formidable guides on the web, just find one that works for you and have at her!

There are 39 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Complete all missions on Easy difficulty (or harder)

    See "Superhero" for more information.
  • Hero

    75

Complete all missions on Normal difficulty (or harder)

    See "Superhero" for more information.
  • Complete all missions on Formidable difficulty

You can start with this difficulty right away and if you can beat it you will also receive "Sidekick" and "Hero" - however, it is highly suggested that you start on Easy and get every other achievement in the game excpet this and "Hero" (so you'll have 850/1000) because you will be able to use the unlocked armors (Silver Centurion seems to be the best) and you will have a better feeling for what your objectives are, plus you won't be worrying about any secondary or hero objectives.

You will need to take your time and be cautious during this difficulty. The number of enemies and rockets is sort of insane and you will die quickly if you charge around or stay in the open too long. There are a few tricks for the boss fights, so if you are stuck, check the forums for help.

  • Destroy stockpiled Stark weapons in the Escape mission

This is almost scripted. The guy in your ear will tell you about these and tell you not to risk your life. Do it anyways and blow these up. Just follow your map to the yellow points to blow them up. This is an introduction to the hero objectives.
  • Destroy drones without civilian damage in the First Flight mission

The drones are yellow and come off of the boss helicopter. If they get close to the ground and shoot, then it is to late. You must take them all out before they fire off one shot towards a civilian. So the second they come off you better take them down. They need to be killed the second they come off or it is to late. Making short work of the boss helps so he won't get off too many rounds of drones.
  • Destroy all Prometheus missiles in the Maggia Compound mission

See "Launch Aborted" for more information.
  • Avoid civilian casualties in the Flying Fortress mission

This is a timed mission. All you need to do is finish the level before the timer reaches zero.

To start off with while in the cutscene hold down LB. That way you are flying the second it is over with. Then press A for a boost and hold it down. Switch to thrusters to make yourself go even faster. Now when you here about the gunfire let go of A and steadily tap it to dodge. This will keep you out of harms way. Now once you get up to the fortress switch to Weapons and follow the below.

First, you have to destroy 10 anti-aircraft defense turrets, except these shoot lasers. They are easiest to take out by actually landing on the surface of the fortress, since while you're in the air you're constantly knocked backward.

Head to either the left or right of the Fortress and land first on the bottom wing and take out the first two lasers. Then head to the upper wing and take out both lasers there. Start heading across to the other side, taking out any copters or regular turrets you run into. Look closely near the base of the wing, where it attaches to the main part of the fortress and you'll notice helipads that the copters are flying out of. Destroy this, and hover jump your way to the top of the main section, where you'll find two more lasers. After they're destroyed, you'll find the second and final helipad on the exact opposite side of the Fortress. Once it's destroyed, take out the rest of the copters and use the same method you used on the other wing to take out the four remaining lasers.

Once you've destroyed the lasers, you'll be told to destroy some hangars. These are located on the back side of the Fortress, on each of the wings. You'll notice hangar bays that jet fighters are flying out of. When the doors are open, land on the surface and shoot at the orange target with your repulsors. They only take one shot. There are two on each wing, so just fly to the other side and wait for the doors to open again to punch them out.

For the next step, you have to blow up four Cooling Elements. These are located on the bottom side of the upper wing on each side of the Fortress. Attack them from the rear, and use the same method of landing on the surface of the lower wing to easily take them out.

Next up, you'll need to high tail it to the front of the Fortress where a door will open up on the front of the main section, directly in the middle of the Fortress. Just be careful of flying into the engines. Inside, land and take out any defense turrets, then just destroy the Cooling Reactors with your repulsors, missiles (Y button) and your unibeam (Right Bumper.)

Once those are destroyed, you'll have to destroy the main reactor. At this point, if you've followed my instructions, you should have at least 2 - 3 minutes left. Fly to the top side of the Fortress (where you'll be looking down upon it) and a new section will be opened up. Land inside and use the reactor as a shield from the enemies. Keep hitting it with missiles and unibeam shots until it blows and then the mission ends and the achievement unlocks.

  • Protect the nuclear facility in the Arctic Battle mission

Tatyana is in fact a huge laser beam and you have to snuff the witch out before "she" destroys the nuclear facility. After you've reached the point in the mission where you've destroyed the third power core that charges up Tatyana, you'll be given a full minute to destroy "her". For that reason, make sure to destroy the power core closest to the laser cannon last! Once it's down, fly straight towards Tatyana, land behind "her", so you can use "her" as a shield and just keep firing off missiles and unibeam shots as quickly as possible until "she" blows up. This should take no longer than 30 of your seconds so if the helicopters start to attack you take them out before taking "her" out.
  • Avoid harming the destroyer and its crew in the Lost Destroyer mission

The Destroyer will be sitting in a wide-open area in the middle of a frozen lake. You'll be able to easily tell it apart from the enemies, because it will target yellow on your weapons system. Look for the Controller Device located near the middle of the Destroyer ship and take it out, but make sure not to fire any errant shots at the yellow targets. If you do, restart the mission.
Then, after you have cleared out all of the bases, you'll have to fight the submarine boss, which is actually quite easy if you follow this method. It will constantly appear to the left and right of the Destroyer Ship, so stay in hover and keep your distance, aim your reticle over the sub's main target (orange) and wait for the missiles to start flying your way. When they do, tap B and send them flying back. You can grab and toss back every single missile launched at you, but there is a specific rhythm and timing to the button presses. If you miss a few, you should be fine if you recover quickly enough, but if you start to run low on health, begin dodging until it submerges again. Keep moving from the left side to the right side, hitting it with its own missiles, until it goes under for good.
  • Avoid disrupting the city's power supply in the On Defense mission

This mission starts with you standing directly in front of Titanium Man. Do your best to dodge and attack when possible. Sooner or later, he'll retreat towards a power generator and restore some of his health. Jarvis will inform you that destroying the generators will make Titanium Man an easier fight, but if you do that, you can't unlock this achievement. Do your best to wear away at as much of his health as possible, in between his recharges, and just be diligent. His health will run after a while.

Equip the guided missiles and unload with Y and RT on Titanium Man. He should be almost dead by the first charge. After that keep attack him with those and it wont even matter. This is the whole mission here so just if you die who cares get up and attack some more.
  • Protect outlying occupied buildings in the Save Pepper mission

For this you can not let any of the yellow dots on your map disappear (aka be destroyed).

This mission will start off showing you a huge reactor and 4 tesla coils. When you start wait where you are for 2 seconds. Then fly straight through the tesla coil ahead of you. This will kill all surrounding enemies by the reactor. Now the reactor will be offline. So during this time fly around and kill enemies attacking tesla coils. If the tesla coil gets to yellow fly there fast and take out all enemies. Now it should say reactor stabilized. Fly through a tesla coil again to take out all enemies. Now rockets should be flying towards the reactor. Aim near the rockets and fire. Take out as many as you can. Now keep repeating the above.

After awhile into the mission you will hear Jarvis talk about drop ships. Take them out and then go back to saving the tesla coils. Just keep taking out enemies, going through the tesla coils, and taking out the rockets. Jarvis will then state that multiple drop ships are coming in. By this time to pass the mission easily the reactor damage should be at 50% or less. Try to take out the drop ships but worry more about the incoming rockets. Now just take out the rockets and enemies.

Jarvis will later state that the enemies are retreating. So high tail it up to the top of the reactor and wait for the missiles. Look on your radar. Wherever there is a big bunch of red, those are missile packs, and go to them first. Just keep turning around and firing at the missiles. Do this and the mission is passed.
  • Prevent cannon attacks on civilian targets in the Island Meltdown mission

When the Island Meltdown mission begins, you're given four power couplings to destroy. Start with the closest, and then work your way counter-clockwise. The initial power coupling might restore before you have a chance to take all out four, so as soon as you take down the fourth, head back to the first coupling while keeping your distance from the middle island.

Once all of them are destroyed, head towards the center island and as soon as you're able to attack the large cannon, hover on the outskirt of the center island and position yourself to where you're just high enough to peek over the edge of the surface. You're able to stay mostly out of harm's way, and you can still target the cannon (the yellow target.) You'll occasionally be attacked by some AIM gunships or flying soldiers, so take them out as they appear, but stay hovering where mentioned and hitting the cannon with repulsor fire, missiles and the occasional unibeam. If you're quick enough about laying on the damage, you can end the mission, destroy the cannon and earn the achievement before the cannon gets a shot off.
  • Sever the tether before the satellite overloads in the Space Tether mission

This achievement is rather easy, although the mission itself is not. Work your way through the canyon, but make sure to fly slightly northwest from the start and enter the canyon by foot. Slowly work your way around, mostly focusing on missile turrets, as they do the most damage. Take out the four targets located underneath the cone-shaped devices. Once they're destroyed, circle around the tether, located in the center of the canyon, taking out the orange targets. After you blow up the last one, you'll have a few minutes to take out 8 yellow targets located near the top of the tether. Don't even worry about enemies, just circle and fire.
  • Destroy power regulators in the Iron Monger mission

This achievement is unlocked finishing a required objective. The mission starts with you fighting Stane in the Iron Monger suit. You have to fully deplete his health bar 5 times before you're able to finish him off, so just take your time and use buildings for cover. Only peek out from behind the cover of a building long enough to take a few shots and launch off a missile attack. Finally, after you've worn him down, Jarvis will tell you to grapple him. If you've been careful enough and have at least 2 of your back-ups (or lives) left, you can easily accomplish this by rushing directly at him until he drops you once, and then you should be close enough to jump right up and put him in a grapple, by holding B, without taking any more damage. You have to tap the B button during the grapple to tear off his guidance systems.

After he flies off, head to the tower located on your radar as a blue star-shaped dot. Four consoles on top of the building will become destroyable targets as soon as the enemies start to show up. It's easiest to just ignore them, circle the top of the building and wipe out the consoles as fast as possible. Achievement unlocked, game completed. Sit back and watch the ending cinematic and wait for the extra points to tally up for finishing the game also.
  • Complete Hero Objectives for all missions

The hero objectives are all listed below:

Mission 1: Destroy all of the Stark weapons
Mission 2: Destroy drones without civilian damage
Mission 3: Defeat US Fighters without harming the pilots
Mission 4: Protect the warehouse workers
Mission 5: Destroy the Prometheus missiles
    Mission 6: Avoid civilian casualties
Mission 7: Protect the nuclear facility
Mission 8: Avoid harming the destroyer and its crew
Mission 9: Avoid desrupting the city's power supply
Mission 10: Protect the outlying occupied buildings
Mission 11: Prevent cannon attacks on civilian targets
Mission 12: Save the tether before the satellite overloads
Mission 13: Destroy the power regulators

You have to do the above on the same difficulty and this achievement will unlock. If you need help on a mission see its achievement.

If this achievement is not unlocking for you then go to Mission Archive. If you are over 50 points behind the max then you did not do the hero objective. Replay that mission. Do this for all the ones you are down on.
  • Complete the One Man Army vs. Ten Rings challenge without an armor breach

See "AIM-X Obsoleted" for more information.
  • Complete the One Man Army vs. Maggia challenge without an armor breach

See "AIM-X Obsoleted" for more information.
  • Complete the One Man Army vs. Mercs challenge without an armor breach

See "AIM-X Obsoleted" for more information.
  • Complete the One Man Army vs. AIM challenge without an armor breach

See "AIM-X Obsoleted" for more information.
  • Complete the One Man Army vs. AIM-X challenge without an armor breach

In One Man Army mode you have 10 minutes to kill 80 enemies without dying. Mainly use repulsors and stay hidden alot. On easy difficulty this is, well, easy. You can take a lot of damage, so just fly around holding RT and you'll be done in a few minutes.
  • Destroy all dropships before the Stark Gunship is stolen in the First Flight mission

This is pretty simple. Make sure to take out every dropship before the huge helicopter shows up. Fly fast around the map blowing up the dropships. Should only take one try. When you can start to fire, do so. Just use the RT. That should be all you need. If they start to get away use Y for your missiles.
  • Destroy all convoy vehicles in less than 2 minutes in the Stark Weapons mission

This is really simple. If there are two trucks in the convoy, shoot the one in front and the one behind it will blow up. If there is three shoot the middle one and they all blow up. By doing this you save a lot of time. If you are still running low on time then boost with the A button while flying to go even faster.
  • Destroy all Prometheus missiles within 10 minutes in the Maggia Compound mission

There are three missile silos total in this mission. When the next one shows up fly over fast and blow it up. Try using melee instead of weapons. It will take the missile out alot faster. 10 minutes is a pretty long time so take your time, sort of. Make sure you do not die to much flying over and take out enemies in your way. While at the first one (just to the right of the starting location), take out the truck next to it which will blows up the missile as well. This will save time and net you another achievement as well.
  • Destroy a Prometheus missile by destroying a fuel truck in the Maggia Compound mission

Just to the right and in front of where you start is the first silo. Fly directly there after the mission starts and target the truck to the right of the missile instead of the missile itself. Blow up the truck and the missiles explodes as well, giving you the acheievement.
  • Defeat 20 soldiers in the Arctic Battle mission

Kill twenty of the guys on Arctic Battle. The ships do not count. The men usually come in packs of three. These are not special people just regular enemies. The blue dots on the map are them.
  • Defeat a soldier using the Unibeam

This can be done on First Flight or any mission after. Kill all the enemies but one guy then land and charge an unibeam by holding down RB. Then unleash it on an enemy. Does not have to be full power just needs to be held down for at least a second. Make sure to aim straight at the enemy and be locked on before releasing. This has to be a foot-soldier, not a truck or helicopter.
  • Defeat Titanium Man before his second recharge in the On Defense mission

You can easily pick this achievement up along with "Power Saver" if you have your repulsors and your suits auxiliary weapons upgraded to the max, with Advanced Vespid Missiles. After he recharges the first time just lay into him with everything you've got and he should go down before he even heads in the direction of the next generator.
  • Complete a mission (other than Escape or First Flight) without an armor breach

Complete a mission without ever hitting 0 power on your suit, aka dying. This is really easy on Stark Weapons. Just hide behind rocks when it gets low. My method was to go around to the right one first then follow the path. This makes it very simple. Blow up everything then take out the weapons.
  • Destroy any target using a ramming attack

Shoot any object until it get low in health. For this description we are using a tank. Now once the tank is really low in health fly parallel to the ground and go straight towards it. Make sure to press the A button once you get started on your flypath. If Iron Man leans his righta arm back then it is a ram. If he doesn't bring his arm back then keep doing it until you get the achievement.
  • Successfully grapple and throw a plane

Fly up to a US plane in Stark Weapons and press B. Hold on to the back of the plane then press B again. The plane will go flying and you will unlock this achievement.
  • Damage or destroy another enemy while grappling a SAM launcher.

These can be found as early as the Maggia Factories mission. They're easy to spot. They look like turrets, but are oblong and fire off groups of missiles. You use the same method as with the Howitzer. Land on the ground, grapple, aim and shoot.
  • Damage or destroy another enemy while grappling a howitzer.

This can be accomplished as early as the Maggia Factories mission. Locate a Howitzer (tank) on the ground near any of the base structures, land on the ground and grapple it by holding B. You're then able to aim the tank's cannon and fire off a shot before it's destroyed. While you have it grappled, just make sure to aim at another enemy and then pull the right trigger.
  • Successfully grapple an opponent in the Hulkbuster armor

When you unlock the Hulkbuster armor put it on. Now grapple an enemy (tank or plane) by holding down B. Achievement unlocked.

NOTE: Unlocked armors can only be worn after completing the game, so all these extra achievements will come in mission select or during a second play through the game.
  • Defeat an opponent using the ground pound in the Extremis armor

The Extremis armor is unlocked by defeating the second One Man Army mission. Now fly up into the air and let go, falling and slamming into the ground. Aim this next to a tank or soldier.
  • Defeat Titanium Man using the Classic armor

When fighting Titanium Man in the mission "On Defense" use the Classic armor.
  • Defeat Iron Monger using the Silver Centurion armor

When fighting Iron Monger during the final mission use the Silver Centurion armor.
  • Complete any mission (other than Escape) without using weapons systems

When playing through a mission never press the RT or Y buttons at all. Just melee, grapple, and counter with their own missles.
  • Eject!

    25

Spare the US fighter pilots in the Stark Weapons mission

When going against the fighter pilots never fire at them with your weapons. Only use the grapple and throw move by pressing B.
  • Protect warehouse workers in the Maggia Factories mission

When you get to where you have to destroy the reinforcements head over to the 4 blue dots. Those are the warehouses. Now tanks and vehicles will be coming in to attack the warehouses, destroy all of them. Now head off to destroy one of the factories. Come back and more reinforcements should be coming towards the warehouses. Repeat this until all factories are destroyed and the warehouses are safe.
