Introduction:
Welcome to Gears of War 2 (Japanese) unlike most stacks this game's list is significantly different from the "regular" version and actually is more involved. While most of the "core" game stuff stayed the same a lot of the DLC achievements were scrapped, combined, or just otherwise changed. This time around there are also a lot more level progression achievements that will in it's own way make the grind to level 100 seem more bearable.

This version of the game runs on a different update version than the "regular" Gears of War 2, which drastically effects matchmaking and several achievements as result. If you wish to proceed, prepare to play more Horde than you probably ever wanted to.

Step 1 - Co-Op Campaign + Collectibles:
Grab a collectible guide and a friend, then start your campaign on any difficulty (insane will not be available yet). Obviously casual will go the quickest, but I did mine on hardcore for a challenge. After this you will have all the campaign achievements, co-op achievements and collectible achievements.

You can also knock out the 3 deleted scene achievements during this step too.

Step 2 - Insane Difficulty:
Remember that friend you had? See if you can grab him again. Either go through together on insane, or have your friend be on casual which will allow him to lead you Rambo-style through the game extremely fast.

Step 3 - Horde Master + Veteran Gear:
Grab 3 or 4 other gamers and play through all 50 waves on all 29 maps. Doing this will knock out quite a few achievements and get you significant progress towards a few others. You will have netted 1,450 rounds for "Party Like it's 1999" and will be at around level 81 which is the half way to "Veteran Gear" in terms of experience earned. For the remaining experience to reach level 100, grab your partners for this game and grind wave 1 of Security on Insane (or highest difficulty you can clear consistently). By the time you reach level 100 you will have easily surpassed 1,999 rounds of horde for "Party Like it's 1999."

Step 4 - Mop Up:
If for whatever reason you have some achievements left at this point go ahead and knock them out now.

Conclusion:
"Horde Master" is easily the most intimidating thing here, but if you have a good group that sticks it out it's not a terrible achievement to do. Same with "Veteran Gear." In the end it's just a giant time sink. If you're crazy enough to go through with going through this I wish you good luck and hope you have fun!

  • Complete all campaign acts on Hardcore Difficulty

See "Suicide Missionary" for more information.

  • Complete all campaign acts on Insane Difficulty

    (1)

To unlock insane difficulty you will have to first beat the game on casual, normal or hardcore. Beating the game on a difficulty will also unlock any lower difficulty, so starting on hardcore will unlock casual and normal, then you will need to play through a second time for the Insane achievement. If you have a friend willing to, playing co-op with one person on casual and the other on insane makes it go very quickly as the person on casual can just mow everything down while you (on insane) just stay in cover and take it easy.

    Tips:

    • Play co-op. Not only will this get you those achievements at the same time, but you will have much better help than the AI will give. Unless your friend sucks, of course.
    • Go slow, cover often. The most deaths I've had on Insane have been from messing around and going for chainsaws or trying to move up too quickly. Take your time and get in cover shortly after taking damage so your health can recharge.
    • Make very good use of the Longshot sniper rifle. Headshots are one-hit kills on everything but the Kantus priests and Boomer enemies, and beast-type enemies like Reavers.
    • Conserve ammo. Wretches can be killed easily with a melee hit so try not to waste your ammo on them if possible. Don't spend all your lancer ammo on an enemy you can barely see either. If you have an easy chainsaw opportunity, take it. Coordinate with your co-op partner and distract enemies to get in behind for chainsaws.

Note: You can get all the "story progression" achievements on any difficulty including casual, and in solo or co-op.

  • Recover 5 collectibles (any difficulty)

    See "Completionist" for more information.

  • Recover 20 collectibles (any difficulty)

    See "Completionist" for more information.

  • Recover all 41 collectibles (any difficulty)

Use this thread to find all the collectibles in the game. As soon as you pick something up, it will be saved into your War Journal once you back out to the main menu. You do not have to hit a new checkpoint for it to save. You can check which ones you are missing from your War Journal and simply load those chapters on Casual for anything you may have missed.

Note: In co-op, if one person picks something up, you both get credit for it.

  • Complete 1 chapter in Co-op on any difficulty (Marcus or Dom)

See "Friends with Benefits" for more information.

  • Complete 10 chapters in Co-op on any difficulty (Marcus or Dom)

See "Friends with Benefits" for more information.

  • Complete all acts in Co-op on any difficulty (Marcus or Dom)

I would suggest coupling this with your Insane difficulty run as this will make it much easier. If for some reason you have to do this out of order, that will not affect the achievement. You do not have to be the second player like in the first game, both players will get these achievements. Training Carmine in the beginning of the game is required for this achievement.

  • Win 10 chainsaw duels (any mode)

A chainsaw duel will occur if you and an opponent both have your chainsaws raised at the same time when you run into each other. From there, you will need to tab  faster than your opponent to win the duel and kill him. Can be done during campaign or any multiplayer mode, as well as using the "Organ Grinder" method.

  • Use a meatshield to save your life 10 times (any mode)

First you will need to take a hostage by downing someone and hitting  to pick them up as a shield. From there, you will need to use that shield to survive an attack that would otherwise kill you. The easiest way to get this is to tag the downed opponent with a grenade, then quickly pick them up. The grenade will explode, blowing up the meatshield but leaving you intact. Use the "Organ Grinder" boosting method for this as well.

  • Kill 30 enemies with a cover mounted Mulcher (any mode)

The Mulcher is a heavy turret-type gun. For these kills, you will need to have it equipped, take cover by pressing A near a low wall, hold  to mount the gun and  to shoot it at your second controller player. Simply shooting with  does not count as you are carrying it, not mounting it.

For this and any other weapon achievement, if you don't get all your kills in the campaign, the easiest way to get the rest is to setup a Local Multiplayer match with a second controller (or nine bots) and change all the guns to whichever one you need.

  • Kill 30 enemies with the heavy Mortar (any mode)

    (1)

The mortar is another heavy weapon with a long tube. You will need to hold  to aim and press to shoot it off (hold  to shoot further). You can use the method described in "Organ Grinder" to unlock this as well.

  • Kill 10 enemies with a planted grenade (any mode)

Use the same method as for "Organ Grinder" but with this you will need to use frag or ink grenades. Grab some and "plant" them in a wall by hitting . This turns it into a proximity mine. Move your second controller character near the frag-in-the-wall and he should die no problem with a frag, it may take some weakening for an Ink to do the job though.

  • Melee 10 enemies down with the Boomshield equipped (any mode)

The Boomshield is first seen in the campaign carried by Boomer-esque enemies with a giant flail. Once they die you can pick it up with . It will shield you extremely well, allowing you to get in close to enemies. Once in close, use  to melee them down with your pistol. Can be done using the "Organ Grinder" method as well.

  • Kill 30 enemies with the Scorcher Flamethrower (any mode)

The scorcher is yet another heavy weapon, first found in the COG facility in the campaign. There are a large number of wretches in this facility which will die quickly in the fire. Can be done using the "Organ Grinder" method as well.

  • Perform 30 perfect Active Reloads (any mode)

An active reload is performed by hitting  to reload your gun, then hitting  again while the sliding bar is in the small white space along the reload bar. This reloads faster and gives a damage boost. You should be doing this all the time anyway so this won't be much work. This image says it all:

  • Melee 30 Tickers (any mode)

Tickers are the small scampering creatures that run up to you, shake, then explode. They stand still in front of you for a second or two before exploding, so just let them run to you and whack them by hitting  (not with your lancer though, this will chainsaw). There are plenty of these in Act 1, Chapter 5. Reload the same checkpoint until you get the achievement if need be.

  • Kill an enemy with every weapon in the game (any mode)

You will need to use 15 different weapons for this achievement. Use the same method as for "Organ Grinder" to get anything you didn't use in the campaign.

    • Boltok Pistol (Locust)
    • Snub Pistol (COG)
    • Gorgon Pistol (Rapid-Fire)
    • Hammerburst (Locust Assault Rifle)
    • Lancer (COG Assault Rifle)
    • Boomshot
    • Shotgun
    • Hammer of Dawn
    • Longshot Sniper Rifle
    • Torque Bow
    • Mortar Launcher
    • Mulcher Chain-gun
    • Scorcher Flamethrower
    • Frag Grenade
    • Ink Grenade

The Ink Grenade and Hammer of Dawn are almost always the last ones people need. For the Ink kill, it will take two to kill an enemy. Chances are if you think you got it but are still at 14/15, they bled out instead of dying from the Ink. Try tagging them with one and throwing another at their crawling body.

  • Perform all 11 unique executions on a downed enemy

    (3)

When an enemy is "downed" they have taken too much damage and fall to their knees/crawl away. You will need to use a variety of weapons to get all 11 executions, some having two different ones depending on the button used.

    • Torque Bow -
    • Torque Bow -
    • Longshot -
    • Longshot -
    • Boltok Pistol -
    • Shotgun -
    • Neck Snap -  to pick them up, then
    • Curb Stomp - (any gun equipped)
    • 1 2 3 Punch - (equip a gun that does not have its own execution - Boomshot, Scorcher, etc.)
    • Boomshield -
    • Lancer -
  • Kill 100,000 enemies (any mode)

    (2)

This may seem like a larger task than the first game, but it really isn't. This includes all kills from the campaign, Horde mode, or multiplayer (ranked, unranked, local, system link). To get this insanely fast, first do all your other achievements, then load one of two points in the campaign:

Act 1, Chapter 4 (Tip of the Spear, The Big Push)
Get on the turret and blast away the Locust spilling out of the ground, then reload your checkpoint and repeat.

Act 5, Chapter 5 (Aftermath, Closure)
Using the Brumak, blow up the two squads of Locust coming toward you, then reload your checkpoint and repeat.

It might be a toss-up which is actually faster, though most people believe the Brumak method is. Do whichever one you like better, or switch between the two for some variety. Reportedly 15-20 hours total if you do nothing but boost for it.

WARNING: Your progress will not fully save until you go back to the main menu. Do not simply shut off your Xbox or join an online match before doing so or all kills will be lost.

If you have a turbo controller you can try this method as well:

  • Win 3 matches of Wingman (public)

Wingman is a gametype of two-player teams fighting to the death. The winner is the first team to get 15 points, giving one point for each kill and another point for being the surviving team for the round (only one person has to live but all other teams must be dead).

Seeing as how this version of the game has little to no community you will need boosting partners for this. Go here to find boosters: https://www.xboxachievements.com/foru...d.php?t=572203

  • Capture 10 meatflags in Submission (public)

You will need the Submission game mode for these. The meatflag is a human that will need to be grabbed and dragged back to your base to capture. He will fight back and you will have the other team trying to stop you, so get a good team around you to help. Must be done in a Public Xbox Live match. You have to personally capture and return him for this to count, someone on your team getting it doesn't.

Seeing as how this version of the game has little to no community you will need boosting partners for this. Go here to find boosters: https://www.xboxachievements.com/foru...d.php?t=572203

  • Win 10 rounds of Guardian as the leader (public)

Guardian is what used to be called Assassination. However, now the other team will spawn until the leader is killed. If both teams are playing defense, the games will go on forever, so find a good offensive team (but stay toward the back of them) and go hunt the enemy leader. You must be the leader for these wins so this will take a bit longer. Must be done in a Public Xbox Live match.

Seeing as how this version of the game has little to no community you will need boosting partners for this. Go here to find boosters: https://www.xboxachievements.com/foru...d.php?t=572203

  • Win 3 matches of King of the Hill (public)

To win King of the Hill, your team will need to take over the objective ring and get your score up to whatever the goal is before the other team can. Must be done in a Public Xbox Live match.

Seeing as how this version of the game has little to no community you will need boosting partners for this. Go here to find boosters: https://www.xboxachievements.com/foru...d.php?t=572203

  • Successfully complete the 5 lessons of multiplayer Training Grounds

From the main menu, select "Training Grounds" and simply complete all five tutorials.

  • Kill 10 enemies with a grenade while down but not out (any mode)

This is best done using the "Organ Grinder" method of boosting. First grab some frag grenades with your profile (can't use the starting grenade, it doesn't kill) and equip them by hitting . Then use your second controller to knock you down. Move in close with the second controller and an explosion icon will appear on the bottom of your profile's screen. Hit  with your profile and you will set off the grenade you were holding, killing both players.

  • Play 1999 rounds of multiplayer (any mode)

    (4)

Just completing "Horde Master" gets you a majority of the way here. Doing that achievement will get you 1,450 of the rounds you need for this. The rest you will get grinding out "Veteran Gear."

  • Win a multiplayer match on each of the 29 shipped maps (any mode)

Instead of the individual map pack "Around the World" achievements that the regular version had, it was combined in to one mega achievement. This will be obtained in the process of completing "Horde Master." Refer to "Horde Master" for a list of all the maps.

  • Survive the first 10 waves of Horde (any difficulty, any map)

See "Horde Master" for more information.

  • Survive all 50 waves of Horde (any difficulty, any map)

See "Horde Master" for more information.

  • Complete waves 1 through 10 in Horde on all 29 shipping maps (any difficulty)

See "Horde Master" for more information.

  • Complete waves 1 through 50 in Horde on all 29 shipping maps (any difficulty)

    (7)

This one is the real kicker for finishing this version of the game in terms of effort. This can be done on Casual and should be if you're just looking to get the achievement. You can also do it with up to five people over Live which is also suggested. You have to finish every wave at some point, though they can be done in any order and at any time. You do not have to do all 50 for a map in one sitting as you can start at the highest wave you completed previously.

Make sure to keep track of which maps you have finished as the game only tells you how many you have finished and not which ones

Also get a solid group of 4 or 5 people including yourself; some of these maps are doable with 3 but it is not worth the extra difficulty, stress, and time unless you literally can not find another person. If you need to find partners for this achievement check this thread: https://www.xboxachievements.com/foru...d.php?t=572203

    The maps are:

    1. Avalanche
    2. Blood Drive
    3. Day One
    4. Hail
    5. Jancinto
    6. Pavilion
    7. River
    8. Ruins
    9. Security
    10. Stasis
    11. Gridlock
    12. Subway
    13. Canals
    14. Mansion
    15. Tyro Station
    16. Flood
    17. Gold Rush
    18. Fuel Station
    19. Grind Yard
    20. Under Hill
    21. Courtyard
    22. Fuel Depot
    23. Allfathers Garden
    24. Highway
    25. Memorial

  • Without being detected, complete the "Road to Ruin" deleted scene after choosing the stealth option

The deleted scene can be accessed directly from the main menu. Once you load it up, choose the "stealth" option.

The deleted scene is fairly straightforward and is actually better done solo for the stealth achievement. Dom will kind of lead you through the level. The only part that seems to give people trouble is when the Brumak appears. At this point, there is an offshoot to your right that you can head down. When you reach Franklin, you will be forced to fight; this does not affect the achievement. If you make it to this section without being seen, you will still unlock this. If you are seen at any point, pause and choose to reload your last checkpoint; this will not affect the achievement.

  • Complete the "Road to Ruin" deleted scene after choosing the guns blazing option

Once you load up the deleted scene, choose the "guns blazing" mode instead of stealth like the previous achievement. This should be familiar to you if you've played the normal campaign, so blast your way through. This can be done on any difficulty, obviously easiest on casual, and go ahead with this in co-op to save some time to get the next achievement as well.

  • Complete the "Road to Ruin" deleted scene in co-op as either Marcus or Dom

    (1)

See "Highway to Hell" for more info.

To play in co-op, you simply need to load the deleted scene, then either sign in a second controller or invite someone to your game through the dashboard. You can't start this from any kind of lobby, but so long as you get a second person in right at the start you'll get the achievements.

  • Earn enough multiplayer experience to reach level 60 (Horde or Public only)

See "Veteran Gear" for more information.

  • Earn enough multiplayer experience to reach level 65 (Horde or Public only)

  • Earn enough multiplayer experience to reach level 90 (Horde or Public only)

See "Veteran Gear" for more information.

  • Earn enough multiplayer experience to reach level 95 (Horde or Public only)

See "Veteran Gear" for more information.

  • Earn enough multiplayer experience to reach level 100 (Horde or Public only)

    (1)

This achievement still requires the same amount of experience to obtain as the regular version of the game. Also the additional requirement relating to the snowblind map pack for "Battle Hardened Gear" and this achievement have been removed. So you simply have to grind the level out to obtain the achievement.

Honestly the best and most efficient way to do this on title update 4 (the version this game is on) is to run wave 1 of Horde on the map Security while playing on the insane difficulty setting with a group. After you reach wave 2 just have everyone kill themselves by running into the lasers and then choose the menu option "Restart from beginning."

The multiplayer modes do give xp, but it would not be an efficient use of anyone's time to attempt to boost it that way as you do not get very much xp and matchmaking is not very good.

  • Kill 25 Bloodmounts with a Scorcher while playing Horde (any difficulty)

Bloodmounts are only found at the end of the last wave of each sequence in Horde mode. Each sequence consists of 10 waves, so waves ending in 0 are what you'll need. Throw it on Casual to make it easier on yourself. You can kill a few then let the other Locust kill you and retry the wave, your stats will be saved. The Scorcher on Allfathers Garden is always present so that is the best map to grind this out on.
