COMPLETIONISTS: Please take note of the Free/240MSP Or Less section of the achievement guide. If you are uncertain about this game, I advise you to try it on a separate Xbox 360 gamertag.

Well the Game Room is now open. For those who don't know what this is, the Game Room acts as a traditional arcade full of cabinets for gamers to play "retro" games from the 80's and early 90's. At launch, there was 30 games made available, with an announcement that there will be 7 games added every week, with up to 1000 games available total by the end of three years. It was also announced that when you buy a cabinet on it's release date, you obtain that cabinet's mascot free, which will help with My First Mascot. There is even a showcase room that you can visit to demo games, as well as pay 40 MSP for one play.

A token system is also put into effect for the showroom. Every time a someone visit's your arcade and/or spends money on a game, you obtain tokens. These tokens are free, and you get 20 when you first download the program, and can be spent for one free round of any game you choose until you run out.

Unfortunately, you have to buy some of those games in order to obtain all 1000 points. Microsoft has made the Game Room application a free download on the Live Marketplace, but each game is going to cost you. You are allowed to demo each game once, and each game has a set time limit for how long you can play it, though it's not shown on the screen. The following is the pricing plan available:

40MSP = 1 Play
240MSP = Own a cabinet on one format (360 console or GFWL)
400MSP = Own a cabiner for both formats (360 console and GFWL)

This road map is based on the lowest amount of MSP possible for you to spend on purchasing cabinets. You CAN win medals from just using tokens. These cost 40MSP each, but, you only get one play! So, unless you are a master of the specific cabinet, it may not be the smartest financial move. Obtaining all achievements in this program is not hard at all, especially since, in essence, you need only 10 cabinets for all medal related achievements, and there will be plenty of opportunities out there if you feel you may struggle on a game, or the medals seem a bit too hard to attempt. However, both the achievements and medals in this game are very time consuming.

Here are a few notes for those looking for shortcuts:
+ Point Buster and Survivalist medals can only be obtained through playing cabinets in Ranked Mode. If playing via the pay-per-play option, you automatically start in Ranked. Each game features the Time Buster achievement, so at launch (30 titles), you can only obtain 30 medals off-line.

+ Time spent playing works with just staying at the game's title screen through Casual Single Player mode. However if your controller shuts off, the game is paused, even though the pause screen doesn't come up. I will test this today with a wired controller.

+ Some games only have the Time Buster medal. A spreadsheet was created to illustrate requirements to gain medals, as well as which games only have the Time Buster medal. It can be viewed HERE, maintained by Edward Hyena.

This guide and road map is designed to help out from day one, looking at only the thirty launch titles for the Game Room. As time goes on, more games will be added, which will alter the way you, the gamer, can earn medals (as in more Time Buster medals that can be earned in off-line mode) and unlock achievements.

Step One: Freebies/Cheapies
If you want some quick points, go for the Free and Cheap achievements, be sure to download the Game Pack 001 and Game Pack 002 items from the Marketplace. Both of these are free and offer you some items to help you unlock achievements. The steps for these are outlined below in the Free/240 MSP Or Less section of the achievement guide.

Please note: [At the time of this road map] It has been pointed out the Game Room internal clock is off and causing people to struggle to obtain the achievement, registering after more then the specified one hour, upwards of three and a half hours later. Aside this, people are reporting that some achievements that unlock through GFWL appear, but then disappear when they sign out then sign back in again.

Step Two: Procure Your Grinding Buddy
You can obtain all the multi-player achievements by yourself through setting up an alternate gamertag on your Xbox 360 console or GFWL account. This process, which is outlined in Challenge Master in the guide, explains how to set up the necessary 20 challenges to obtain these in just less then one hour, even if the alternate tag is only a silver account.

Step Two and a Half: Ye Olde Grind
Unfortunately, once you exhaust your free and cheap achievements, now it's time to saddle up and spend/waste some hard earned money. You can obtain all the Time achievements just by playing the same game, but given the simplicity of these games, those will probably grow tiresome. Essentially there are 50 achievements you can unlock from spending money, and all achievements can be unlocked in your process to obtain the Level 20! and I Like Shiny Things! achievements, with Level 20! simply being unobtainable at launch due to a lack of enough cabinets available.

NOTE: HOW TO PLAY ATARI 2600 GAMES
Many x360a users have started threads inquiring as to how to start playing Atari 2600 games and that they are wasting money. When you load up an Atari 2600 game, you need to hit the Start Button, and then click the image that says RESET in order to start the game. Simple, right?

NOTE: GFWL USERS
Be warned that some people have reported through various threads that some of the Free/240 MSP Or Less achievements are glitched. They will unlock, but when you exit out of GFWL, the achievements will not show up when you return. This seems to be a common occurrence for all GFWL games.

So, there you have it. Easily the 360's most costly 1000 points! If you have decided to take on this trek, it's probably best to look at it moreso as a casual 1000, and only to buy the games you truly love. Otherwise, you'll be lining Bill Gates' pockets with your hard earned money for a score that many may look upon the completion time and wonder if you feel proud, or ashamed.
