Original Diablo III Achievement Guide

Introduction
Welcome to Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition for the Xbox 360! The Diablo series is well known as the quintessential ARPG dungeon crawler providing hours of hack 'n' slash goodness. The completion time really depends on whether or not you have an imported save and multiple high level characters. It is not required, but you can play online co-op in Normal and Hardcore mode with up to 3 other players. So group up with some friends, or people in the Boosting Session thread.

The gameplay itself has not changed obviously, but since you can take characters to level 70 now, new skills and abilities have been added for you to destroy Hells' minions with. The game has been updated in many ways as well from the Diablo III version. The menu's especially have been overhauled graphically and with the addition of the 'Paragon' menu. This allows you to use those Paragon points (if you have any) to upgrade skills and stats!
There have been new additions to gameplay modes though! There's the new Bounty system, the Nephalem Rifts, new difficulty settings, and last but not least the "Reaper of Souls" expansion!

This guide will contain some minor spoilers; mostly on some boss fights, the rest is natural progression.

Character Imports
Xbox 360: If you've played the original Diablo III and still have an old save; when you load up your new Ultimate Evil edition, your characters, gear and community chest will all transfer over to this edition. Achievements however, will have to be earned again.

Xbox One: You can actually transfer your Xbox 360 save to the Xbox One version if you so choose. Please visit the BattleNet to learn more about doing this.

Playthroughs
Let's just say you will play through the campaign a plethora of times. Thankfully in this version of the game, you do not have to complete certain difficulties for achievements; however you need to play through ascending difficulties to unlock the next, hardest difficulty. The harder the difficulty the better the gold and experience gains, and more importantly, the better the loot!

Normal Mode: Start with this mode Diablo noobs! Normal mode lets you get through the game while getting used to the gameplay and checking out different characters. Death will only result in damaged gear, which you can easily fix at any merchant or blacksmith. Whatever you do in this mode will carry over to all other characters; for example: if you raise your Artisans to level 12, if you start a new level 1 character, the Artisans will still be level 12.

Hardcore Mode: Diablo III vets know all about this mode; for the noobs though, this can be a tough mode to play. Hardcore is not for the faint of heart, it is probably best to play the game through a couple of times to get used to the gameplay and levels. What makes Hardcore so daunting is if you die in this mode, your character is gone forever. There's no reloading a previous save.. the character, and the gear on it, is gone to the wind. Whatever is in the community chest will remain for other characters.

There is a slight work around to losing your character, but it's not fool proof. If you have a backup cloud save and you die you can dashboard immediately, then delete your local save data. When you load the game back up, it should sync with the cloud and your character will still be there. It's better than starting over from scratch. **Please Note** There is debate if this actually works, and there's also mention of it screwing your entire save file. Read this THREAD and view this VIDEO and make your own, informed decision at your own risk.

Adventure Mode: Adventure mode is new to Diablo III and includes the Bounties and Nephalem Rifts. You must complete Act 5 first, which is the Reaper of Souls expansion, before you can access Adventure mode. Once you've unlocked Adventure mode with whatever character, it will be available for any new characters you create; the only separation is between Normal and Hardcore modes!
Bounties are short quests you can do in any Act you wish. Criteria is generally killing a certain target, or clearing out the enemies on the floor. Nephalem Rifts are accessed by getting 'Rift Key Fragments'. These 'Rift Keys' are earned at random for completing bounties, killing rare monsters, or opening a Horadric Cache. The Rifts themselves are like an endless dungeon where you must kill enemies to spawn a boss.

Achievements
There are 19 achievements that are story related and will unlock upon the defeat of a boss, or completion of an Act. Some of the remaining achievements are relatively simple to complete and will come naturally with little effort as you progress like repairing your equipment or combining gems. The remaining achievements are the long, grinding type like getting 6 classes to level 70 and reaching level 70 in Hardcore. There are no missable achievements in this game. You can also track most, if not all of the achievements under the "Challenges" section of the menu.

Conclusion
Diablo III: UE can be a long haul for some if they're starting from scratch. If you're importing multiple level 60 characters, then you won't have to grind very much to complete the game. That's why some people have completed this game in 25 hours or less.. and some have taken much longer. Either way, the game is enjoyable and fun to play by yourself, or with friends. Put your nose to the grind, which is what the Diablo series is known for, and attain your 1000!

There are 43 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Pick up 500,000 gold.

    (8)

This only counts for gold that is actually picked up off the ground when you run over it; it does not count for things you sell. Thankfully this total is cumulative; so any gold picked up by any character goes towards this total. As you level, you will find gear that have bonuses to gold find, like the Goldskin. The bonuses will increase the gold dropped by monsters and chests. This achievement will come naturally as you play.

  • Recruit the Templar, Scoundrel, and Enchantress.

    (6)

Story related and can't be missed. While playing the main campaign you will come across these companions in your travels. You will meet the Templar and the Scoundrel in Act 1, and the Enchantress will be found in Act 2. Once you complete their quest, they will join your crusade and you can bring them with you on missions; they can be found at the main camp of whichever chapter. They each have different benefits to your character; so choose what fits your play style.

Keep in mind, you can only use a companion if you are playing solo. You can't bring one along if you're playing co-op with actual players online.

Diablo Imports: I've confirmed that if you have all 3 companions in your camp already, just have each one follow you, by pressing and the achievement will unlock.

  • Equip all Inventory slots with Legendary items that have a minimum required level of 70 or higher.

    (11)

First, get a character to level 70, be it Normal or Hardcore. Legendary items are easily identifiable by the orange plume of light that shoots into the sky (they have to be identified by pressing on them in your inventory); and set items, which are a green plume of light will also work. All the legendary or set items must be level 70 (or above). So you can either farm these on your own; or visit the Item Trading Thread and see if someone will trade with you, or dupe you some gear. A 3rd option is you can have friends gift you Legendary items, if you open them with a level 70 character, they will always be level 70. (credit TriRock) So visit the 'Gamertag Gifts' thread and hopefully get some gifts!
You can not use a 2 handed weapon to get the achievement.. you must put a Legendary item in your main hand and off hand slots.

There are 13 slots that must be equipped:
    Helms
    Shoulders
    Torso
    Wrists
    Hands
    Waist
    Legs
    Feet
    Amulet
    Rings x2
    Main Hand
    Off Hand

  • Use a merchant to repair an item.

    (3)

Your weapons and armor can be damaged as you slash your way through thousands of hellish minions. Thankfully, any merchant (or blacksmith) can repair your equipment... for a small fee of course. If you ignore or forget to repair your equipment, your equipment will eventually break and you'll lose the benefit of the stats/effects on said item.
If you are new to the game and just starting, you won't be able to do this until the Blacksmith has been set up. This will happen through natural story progression, after the Smithy is available your weapons and armor will begin to require repairs. Once you notice your equipment is in need of repair, head to a merchant, tab over to the "Repair" screen and press to repair all.

If you're a Diablo veteran and have imported characters, just head to any merchant and fix your gear.

  • Socket a gem in an item.

The jeweler is required to perform this task. Covetous Shen is found through natural story progression towards the end of Act 2. Once he is in your camp you will begin getting armor drops that have an empty socket on them as well as gems from random enemies. Once you have a gem and a piece of equipment you'd like to upgrade, take it to Shen, tab over to the "Socket" menu and add the gem to the armor or weapon or your choice. Each type of gem has certain properties that will benefit your character.

  • Complete 5 bounties.

Bounties are new to Diablo III. Please see "Batting 500" for more details.

  • Complete 500 bounties.

    (4)

You may notice that the bounties are not available for your to play right away. You must complete Act 5 which is the 'Reaper of Souls' expansion first to be able to access these. Bounties are basically just small sidequests that require you to complete a task or kill a certain enemy. You can access Bounties from the main menu under 'Adventure Mode' and select an Act. Tyrael will be standing there with a ! above his head; speak with him and you'll get a quick tutorial on how the Bounties work. Move to the Portal and select whatever Bounty you want, enter the zone, finish the Bounty and return.

Here is a video by "Darth Vex" on the Xbox One forum:

  • Kill 500 monsters while in Nephalem Rifts.

Nephalem Rifts are also new to this version of Diablo III, and again, can only be accessed upon the completion of Act 5 and a few other criteria. In the major camp areas you may notice an Obelisk and a glowing blue man named 'Orek' standing near it. This is where you can access the Nephalem Rifts. To do so, you must complete Bounties, from which you can gain "Rift Key Fragments"; you need 5 of these fragments to access the Obelisk and enter the Rift. You'll receive 'Rift Keys' randomly for completing bounties or the mini events within active bounties. Once inside, slay all that stand in your path! You will most likely have to make 2, if not 3 runs to reach 500 monsters.

  • Finish a Nephalem Rift within 15 minutes.

    (2)

Once you have Rift Key Fragments and can access the Obelisk, you need to complete the dungeon within 15 minutes from when you first enter and speak with Orek to the finishing text with Orek. There is a meter on the side of the screen that you have to fill, and of course, it has an insatiable hunger for dead things! Kill as many enemies as you see fit before moving to the next level. The dungeon is endless, so kill until you find an exit and move on. Once the meter is full, the boss will appear. Kill this boss, exit the dungeon and then find Orek next to the Obelisk. It is advisable you use a level 70 character and put the difficulty on Normal; you should be able to breeze through in about 10 minutes.

    Here's a video by "WORLDEATER":

  • Kill the Skeleton King.

Story related and can't be missed. This is the first real boss of Act 1 that you'll encounter as you progress. He swings a big axe, can teleport around a bit and will spawn skeletal minions as you damage him. Just keep whacking away at him, avoiding his attacks as best you can until he's defeated.

  • Kill the Butcher.

    (3)

Story related and can't be missed. He is the final boss of Act 1. You are in a small arena and eventually fire will erupt through the floor in sections. He has a grasp attack which pulls you closer to him, a spread attack with his chain-like weapon, and he'll charge at you.

  • Complete all quests in Act I.

Story related and can't be missed. Once you complete all the quests in Act 1, you will be asked to move on via the "caravan"; do so and a cutscene will play and the achievement will unlock.

    The Act I quests:
    1) The Fallen Star
    2) The Legacy of Cain
    3) A Shattered Crown
    4) Reign of the Black King
    5) Sword of the Stranger
    6) The Broken Blade
    7) The Doom in Wortham
    8) Trailing the Coven
    9) The Imprisoned Angel
    10) Return to New Tristram

  • Kill Maghda.

Story related and can't be missed. You've been dealing with this evil chick since Act 1, now you finally get to kill her. As you damage her, she encompass herself in a forcefield and summon minions to kill you. Once you kill the spawned minions her forcefield will drop so get back to chopping her down.

  • Kill Zoltun Kulle.

Story related and can't be missed. This guy is a sinister one! Along with himself, you must fight two very large golem type creatures. It is advisable you take out his bodyguards first and then concentrate on Zoltun.

  • Kill Belial.

Story related and can't be missed. Belial is the final boss of Act 2; there are 3 parts to this fight. At first you have to battle a bunch of snake men; then you must fight a phantom form of Belial. Once that is defeated the real battle will begin! Watch out for his sweeping attacks and do your best to avoid his others!

  • Complete all quests in Act II.

Story related and can't be missed. Upon the defeat of Belial and getting back to camp for some dialogue you can move on to the next act; cue the cutscene and the achievement!

    The Act II quests:
    1) Shadows in the Desert
    2) The Road to Alcarnus
    3) City of Blood
    4) A Royal Audience
    5) Unexpected Allies
    6) Betrayer of the Horadrim
    7) Blood and Sand
    8) The Black Soulstone
    9) The Scouring of Caldeum
    10) Lord of Lies

  • Kill Ghom.

    (1)

Story related and can't be missed. He's big, ugly and seems to fart a poison mist cloud that fills the room. Do your best to avoid this and beat him down.

  • Kill the Siegebreaker Assault Beast.

Story related and can't be missed. The Beast has multiple attacks including one where he can grab your character. As the fight progresses, Demon Troopers will spawn and assist against you, avoid his charges, slashes and grabs and you'll beat him down soon enough.

  • Kill Azmodan.

Story related and can't be missed. For being a General in Hell's Army.. he sure is a pushover. He has the normal melee attacks and a fireball, but his 'Pools of Destruction' attack can suck. This isn't really an attack, but it cuts the battlefield in half when Azmodan secretes this pool of dark blood. Extra enemies will also spawn during this fight.

  • Complete all quests in Act III.

Story related and can't be missed. Upon the defeat of Azmodan and some 'plot twists' the Act will end you'll move on, unlocking the Achievement.

    The Act III quests:
    1) The Siege of Bastion's Keep
    2) Turning the Tide
    3) The Breached Keep
    4) Tremors in the Stone
    5) Machines of War
    6) Siegebreaker
    7) Heart of Sin

  • Kill Diablo.

Story related and can't be missed. The main antagonist of the game; there are 3 parts to this battle. His major attacks are fireballs, traps that leap out from the ground, and warping around. You can't fail now!

  • Complete all quests in Act IV.

Story related and can't be missed. After defeating Diablo and speaking with Tyrael the ending scenes will play and the campaign will end unlocking the final achievement for the main game.

    The Act IV quests:
    1) Fall of the High Heavens
    2) The Light of Hope
    3) Beneath the Spire
    4) Prime Evil

  • Kill Urzael.

Story related and can't be missed. This guy can be a pain due to the enclosed space you have to work with. He has a leaping attack accompanied with fire; as the fight progresses he will enrage and set the room ablaze! As this happens, pieces of the ceiling will begin to fall on you; avoid the falling debris and him as best you can. Stick and move!

  • Her?

    25

    Kill Adria.

    (1)

Story related and can't be missed. She was tough, but not as difficult as Urzael I found. Her Whirlpool attack is probably her strongest, but she can cause arcane energy to to well up on the ground which will hurt you. Avoid the pools as best you can and whittle her down.

  • Kill Malthael.

Story related and can't be missed. He is the main antagonist of the Reaper of Souls expansion. He's now an arcangel with a mean side. He has some serious attacks, like his Drain Soul attack and then he can summon Death Fogs that move around the floor. There's a few phases to the battle but I don't want to give them away!

  • Complete all quests in Act V.

    (1)

Story related and can't be missed. Upon the defeat of Malthael the ending cutscenes will play and the achievement will unlock. You will also unlock "Adventure Mode" which will allow you to access the Bounties and Nephalem Rift.

    The Act V quests:
    1) The Fall of Westmarch
    2) Souls of the Dead
    3) The Harbringer
    4) The Witch
    5) The Pandemonium Gate
    6) The Battlefields of Eternity
    7) Breaching the Fortress
    8) Angel of Death

  • Reach level 70 in Hardcore mode.

    (32)

This one will take awhile and it's a touch stressful! Just be patient when you are leveling up your Hardcore character, because you should know by now, if you die in Hardcore, your character is gone for good. You can power level a hardcore character, please reference the "Dream Team" achievement description and view the video. Just be diligent and patient and try not to get surrounded and killed!

  • Kill Diablo in Hardcore mode.

You can obviously do this on a lower difficulty if you wish, it's probably best that you do. Diablo is the final boss from the main game. If you've played through Normal mode a few times, you should be well aware of what Diablo can do and how to defeat him.

  • Kill Malthael in Hardcore mode.

    (1)

You can obviously do this on a lower difficulty if you wish, it's probably best that you do. Malthael is the final boss of the 'Reaper of Souls' expansion. It's recommended you play through on Normal mode to get used to the boss and his attacks. Once ready, take the plunge on Hardcore mode!

  • Reach level 70.

Keep playing through the campaign and increasing the difficulty as you go. There are bonuses to gold and experience the higher the difficulty; you can start with Normal and progress to Hard, Expert, Master, Torment, Torment II, Torment III, Torment IV, Torment V and finally Torment VI. You can change the difficulty at any time, but you must have completed the campaign on one difficulty to unlock the next. You can power level a character, please reference the "Dream Team" achievement description and view the video.

  • Reach level 70 with 6 different classes.

    (19)

This is easily the most time consuming of all the achievements. There are only 6 classes, so you must reach level 70 with the Wizard, Witch Doctor, Barbarian, Monk, Crusader and Demon Hunter. If you plan on doing (or have already done) a Hardcore character to level 70, that will count towards your total, as long as you use a different class!

Refer to "Dashing Through the Rift" for a video guide.

  • Kill 500 elite (champion, rare, or unique) enemies.

Elite enemies are basically anything that isn't a normal mob. These enemies will have a gold or purple nametag with a gold highlight around them. They are also tougher than normal mobs and will have a unique names. Others will come in a set of 3 and have a blue highlight around them. This is a cumulative achievement across all characters and playthroughs.

  • Kill 100 Treasure Goblins.

You'll run into these little critters all over the place. Treasure Goblins can be found at random throughout your travels; in dungeons, Nephalem rifts, and in bounties. You'll recognize them as a hunched over goblin with a bag of gold. As you approach him, he'll begin to run dropping gold as he tries to escape you. Keep whacking away at him until he's dead. Don't let him get too far away though, eventually he'll open a rift and vanish! This is a cumulative number for all characters and all playthroughs. Treasure Goblin kills in Normal and Hardcore will go towards the same total; these are not separated.

  • Get a destruction callout for breaking 50 objects.

    (12)

This one can be tough, but make sure you use a character that has ranged attacks. It can be done in multiple places all over the world as well. Some have mentioned the Cemetary of the Forsaken in Act 1, or the Royal Crypts has many urns along the path, or even in the circular area of the Caldeum Palace. Having a pair of the Legendary Fire Walker boots helps too, they leave a wake of fire as you walk. I personally got this with a Demon Hunter in the Cemetary of the Forsaken using the Evasive Fire skill.

  • Craft 5 items.

Please reference "Custom-fit" for more information.

  • Craft 100 items.

    (1)

Level up Haedrig Eamon the Blacksmith and he will learn new recipes for armor and weapons. You can also get Legendary recipes to drop from random enemies or chests. Read them and your Smith will learn the recipe as well. Components are either found as you play, or made by breaking down weapons and armor you don't want under the 'Salvage' tab. You can just keep making junk stuff over and over as long as you have the components. I would just make boots with the Exquisite Essence I had, salvage all the boots, which would give me the components needed to make them, and make more.
You can also combine gems using the Jeweler and it will count towards your total (credit TriRock). If you're just starting out, this will be loads easier than smithing it all!
    Do this 100 times!

**Please Note** The criteria for leveling up the Artisans in Diablo III: UEE has changed from the original Diablo III. In the UEE version of the game it will take a lot of cash and only 2 Death's Breaths to max them out! I can confirm once you level your Artisans to the max level; they will be so for any subsequent characters you create. The only separation is between Normal and Hardcore modes!

  • Raise the Blacksmith to level 12.

It'll take 328,000 gold and 1 Death's Breath to raise Haedrig Eamon the Blacksmith skill from level 1 to level 12.
Diablo Imports: If your Blacksmith is already level 10, it will take 158,000 gold and 1 Death's Breath to get him to level 12!. Death's Breath can be found randomly from unique mobs in the 'RoS' expansion as long as you're above level 61.

  • Raise the Jeweler to level 12.

It'll take 22,000 gold and 1 Death's Breath to raise Covetous Shen the Jeweler skill from level 1 to level 12.
Diablo Imports: If your Jeweler is already level 10, it will take 12,000 gold and 1 Death's Breath to get him to level 12!. Death's Breath can be found randomly from unique mobs in the 'RoS' expansion as long as you're above level 61.

  • Raise the Mystic to level 12.

23,500 gold is all it takes to raise Myriam Jahzia the Mystic skill to Level 12. The Mystic is found through natural progression in the "Reaper of Souls" expansion (Act 5). Once she is in your camp, speak with her and raise here level and the achievement is yours.

  • Enchant all your equipment slots.

    (1)

**Please Note** You can only enchant items that drop in the "Reaper of Souls" version of the game. Items that transfer over from the original Diablo III can't be enchanted.
Now you need to get an enchantable item for each slot for your character, enchant the items, and then actually put all the items on your character for the achievement to unlock. This will take a lot of gold and many components that you can get from salvaging "Reaper of Souls" weapons and armor. I personally, would just collect 'blue' rated junk pieces and save them in my inventory, then enchant them and put them on all at once.

There are 13 slots that must be enchanted:
    Helms
    Shoulders
    Torso
    Wrists
    Hands
    Waist
    Legs
    Feet
    Amulet
    Rings x2
    Main Hand
    Off Hand

  • Replace a property with Enchanting.

**Please Note** You can only enchant items that drop in the "Reaper of Souls" version of the game. Items that transfer over from the original Diablo III can't be enchanted.

That being said, once you get a few enchantable armor pieces (or just use blue rated junk pieces), simply go to your Mystic and choose the 'Enchant' tab. Here you can select a property that you wish to replace and the game will randomly generate 3 new properties that you can replace the old one with. Choose whatever suits you and the achievement is yours.

  • Acquire the Mystic.

Story related and can't be missed. You will meet Myriam the Mystic midway through the 'Reaper of Souls' expansion. Eventually you will take her back to camp and she will set up shop upon completion of the current quest.

  • Combine gems.

    (1)

Once rescue Covetous Shen the Jeweler from himself in Act 2; you will begin to see gems drop from enemies you kill. Generally at the start they are 'chipped'. Once you have 2 of these smaller, 'chipped' gems you can combine them to make better gems. As you level up your jeweler, you'll be able to access, and create better gems. The better the gem, the better the stats or effect.

Obviously for Diablo imports you should have some extra gems lying around somewhere, just combine any gem.
