Bionic Commando is a game that relies almost entirely on skill. The amount of time needed for a full 200 is reliant on how skilled you are at the game. You are going to need to master everything the game has to offer. Finishing Super Hard will push your skills to the limit, while A Real Challenge requires you to be a master of the Bionic Claw. There are light levels of collection involved, along with a few of those "I would never normally do this strange challenge unless there was an achievement for it" achievements. To say this game is challenging is an understatement. You are going to have to use a lot of effort to completely finish.

Step 1: Preparation
As you complete your first playthrough, be sure to use THIS THREAD to find every weapon/upgrade, THIS THREAD for all Yashichis locations, and THIS THREAD for intel locations (which are hard to miss except for a few rare cases.) All will be helpful for various achievements. You can go back to claim anything you skipped by replaying levels, but for the sake of speed it is best to find everything your first time through.

Step 2: Playthrough #1
For your first playthrough, choose the easy difficulty. Any difficulty unlocks Super Hard mode. H4><0rz can be unlocked on Super Hard, meaning a Hard playthrough is not required to obtain all 200.

Be sure to complete area 05 as soon as you can, as it grants you the rocket launcher, which is a necessity for a large variety of situations, and almost every boss. As for easily missed things, the Helmet, which is required for The Emperor's New Clothes, can be found in the secret tunnel between areas 15 and 18. This section of the game can be easily passed over. Make sure you enter every Safe Zone (friendly locations) and go in all of the red rooms to unlock every Challenge Room. You are going to have to give special kinds of effort for Clean as a Whistle, Cat Burglar, and Pacifist Pride. Be sure to read up on how to unlock them, and complete the requirements before you finish The Albatross.

Besides that, make sure to kill all non-required trucks during at least one Meet with Enemy sequence. If you haven't unlocked Faster Than a Speeding Bullet, you can unlock it quickly by standing in front of an enemy, letting him shoot you, using your arm to block his shots one burst at a time.

The last level is difficult on every difficulty (practically impossible on Super Hard,) especially on the outside swinging portion. If you are having any trouble with the last level, use THIS THREAD.

Step 3: A Real Challenge
Once you finish your first playthrough, it is time to attempt the game's gauntlet of 56 Challenge Rooms. These rooms range from easy to excruciatingly hard, without much room in-between. The difficulty curve is drastic, offering you a slew of easy levels to start, then bombarding you with challenges that can take upwards of 100 attempts to complete. The final room is above and beyond the most difficult. It is probably going to take over 100 attempts to complete, possibly over 300. THIS THREAD will give you a rundown on how to finish every challenge if you ever get stuck. Good luck.

Step 4: Playthrough #2
This is your H4><0rz and Elite Commando playthrough. Use THIS THREAD if you need help with Super Hard mode. It is filled with strategies and various bits of info to help you out. As a whole, you are going to need an insane amount of skill to survive Super Hard mode. Don't forget to access every hacking game along the way, and may god bless your poor, poor soul.

Conclusion:
What else can I say? The game is hard to complete. If you happened to miss anything, you can go back and replay any level you want. If you finish The Albatross and haven't unlocked a few select achievements, be sure you unlock them before you start your Super Hard playthrough. You should have unlocked all but H4><0rz and Elite Commando before you start Super Hard mode.

There are 12 achievements with a total of 200 points

  • Kill all foot soldiers and enemy trucks on a Meet With Enemy sequence.

A "Meet With Enemy Sequence" is any sequence where you must land the helicopter and fight the foot soldiers that drive around in the Purple Convoys on the map. An important part of killing all of the foot soldiers is also destroying the Transport Carrier trucks that spawn a continuous group of enemies. Each "Meet With Enemy Sequence" has two to three of these Transport Carrier vehicles that must be destroyed in addition to killing all of the foot soldiers that are placed throughout the level. Once all of the foot soldiers and all of the Transport Carriers are destroyed, the final vehicle at the end of the level can be destroyed. Once this vehicle is destroyed the Helicopter will swoop in and pick you up and unlock the achievement. The Imperial Sidewinder Motorcycle that drives from left to right does not count as a foot soldier and does not have to be destroyed to unlock this achievement. If you are having trouble destroying all of the Transport Carriers trying coming back to one of these sequences after unlocking the Bazooka after finishing Area 05. The Bazooka can finish off these Carriers in one to two hits depending on difficulty.

  • Obtain the Shin Guards, the Bulletproof Vest and the Helmet.

Once you convince the prisoner in Area 19 to give you the location of the Secret Tunnel connecting Area 15 and Area 18, the only real challenge here is being able to make the Claw Swings leading up to the Helmet located inside of this Secret Tunnel. The Bulletproof Vest is automatically given to you after completing Area 11 and the Shin Guards are automatically given to you after completing Area 8.

  • Obtain every weapon and weapon upgrade.

The weapons upgrades required for this achievement include:
    Pistol + Pistol Upgrade
    Grenades
Plasma Rifle + Plasma Rifle Upgrade
    Bazooka + Bazooka Upgrade
    Shotgun + Shotgun Upgrade
Vector Cannon + Vector Cannon Upgrade
Joe's Machine Gun + Joe's Machine Gun Upgrade

Strangely enough the Grenades Upgrade is not required for this achievement to unlock.

For a more detailed description of weapons and upgrade locations check here:

This link also contains a picture walkthrough of how to grab the Secret Dossier database item which will help with locating the Secret Areas that contain the Weapon Upgrades.

  • Block 100 projectiles using the claw.

This achievement requires that you block 100 enemy bullets with the Bionic Claw. This achievement will come after a short period of time while completing the game at higher difficulties but can be also be grabbed by crouching and spamming B with just about any enemy. I found that the easiest way to get this achievement on lower difficulties was to proceed to the end of Area 1 and fight the the D-1 Beetle Boss. This boss shoots a series of 3 Double Shot blasts (on Medium Difficulty) which are easily blocked by crouching on the upper platform and tapping the B button to deploy the Claw to block the bullets.

  • Collect all twelve hidden Yashichis - one from each of Area 01 - 12.

JonLacksAnH put together a really detailed walkthrough of all twelve hidden Yashichis that can be found here: https://www.xboxachievements.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86159 Great work putting that list together Jon!

  • Clear Area 02 without touching a slime blob.

To grab this achievement you have to be able to make it to Area 2 which will at the very least require that you grab the Green Comm Card located in Area 15.

The "Blobs" that this achievement is referring to are the Purple Blobs that drop from the pipes scattered throughout the level (they aren't blue as the achievement icon would tend to indicate). This achievement requires that you not "touch" a slime blob, in addition to not "getting caught" in a slime blob as you might initially think. Even if you manage to make it through the level without getting caught in the blob, grazing one of these things while swinging with the Bionic Claw or while running around on the ground will prevent this achievement from unlocking.

In addition to not touching a slime blob, this achievement requires that you Clear Area 02. In other words you simply need to make it to the end of the level and defeat the Fabricator Boss before this achievement will unlock.

As far as strategy is concerned, I recommend at least playing the level first so that you know the shortest route to the Boss Door. Once you have that path down, take your time in the very beginning of the level to allow the first handful of blobs to spawn and pass, then try and take the high road as quickly as you can (claw to the ceiling and stay off the ground where the blobs are). Once you reach the Comm Room by all of the Tanks, you should be home free from there on out. If you get touched early on, I recommend extracting and trying again. Don't go for Secret Areas, don't look for the Upgrade or Yashichi, use this run just as a speed run to the boss for this achievement.

  • Clear any of Area 1 - 12 without firing your gun.

Once you get the Grenades, Power Claw, and Steel Boots this is actually a lot easier than it initially sounds. If you are able to grab the Cat Burglar achievement, the same method of bypassing all of the enemies in Area 05 (so that you can make the cutoff time) works really well for this achievement as well. I found that there was only really one enemy that I felt that I "had" to kill and that was the enemy by the building with the blue wrecking ball painted on it. If you toss a grenade from the roof of the building next to it (that you used to hoist yourself up) you should be able to take him out really easily. From there on out, you can race past every other enemy in the level. If you find yourself getting chased by the Propellor Droids, simply enter one of the Comm Rooms and they will disappear when you leave.

Be sure and Hack the Eneny Networks while in these rooms to regain any Health that you may have lost along the way. If you do die, its not a huge issue, you will respawn at the last Comm Room that you entered and can still get the achievement.

Once you make it to the boss, toss a couple grenades at the treads while dodgeing his grenades. Once the treads are gone, move close to the boss so that he tries to run you over, and retreat back to the platform on the left. Once he stalls, start removing the bolts, rinse and repeat. Once the plates are off, move close to the boss again to get him to rush you. When he does, it will eject the driver (when it crashes into the platform) and basically self destruct--doing all of the work for you.

If you choose to get this achievement in Area 01, you can use the Power Claw to throw enemies into the electric barriers and can finish off the D1 Beetle Boss in the same manner as before by tossing barrels into his weak spot and then instead of shooting him, finishing him off with grenades instead.

  • Get to the boss of Area 05 within one minute and thirty seconds.

Ok, so this is Rearmed's Speed Run based achievement. The time threshold to make it from the start of the level to the door of the Siege Machine Boss is pretty tight. With that in mind, you really have little time to kill any of the enemies, or fail one of your claw grabs. If you practice the level a few times you will see that there is a path that you can take that is not only efficient but also allows you to bypass pretty much all of the enemies including the Propellor Droids.

The path that I found useful for not only grabbing Cat Burglar, but also grabbing Pacifist Pride is as follows:
As you are parachuting into the Area, start holding Right on the Analog Stick. When you get to the Blue Barrel pause for just a second by releasing the Analog Stick, and press B. This will default to an upwards angled Claw. Hold Right on the Analog Stick and continue to tap B so that you swing along this lower roofline (this will shave a second or two).

Once you get to the second roof (where you encounter your first enemy) aim upwards and proceed to spam the B button as quick as you can. You should pass 5 levels until you reach a set of 2 small yellow search lights. Grab the closest search light and continue to climb up. After two levels you should see a purple foot soldier almost directly above you. Slide right just a bit to avoid the concrete barrier above him and continue to tap up and B. Once you get to the two short search lights proceed right until you reach the tall search light. Grab this search light and then aim for the corner of the building near by. If the enemy that is crouched behind the block shoots you and knocks you off, you may want to consider Calling for Extraction and starting over. If you make it past without getting shot than continue to tap up and B. If you grabbed close enough to the corner of the previous roof you should be able to slide right past the pipes that block you from above.

Once you hoist yourself up you will see a blue wrecking ball of sorts painted on the side of the building on the left side of the screen. Once you see this, drop down from the roof that you hoisted yourself onto, crouch and fire 3 shots (or toss a grenade if you are also working on Pacifist Pride). This should kill the enemy crouched on the left of the screen and allow you to proceed. Stay as tight as you can to the enemy above and begin tapping up and B again. You should pass 7 floors and 1 red turret that fires outward.

Once you reach the second turret slide right a bit (to bypass the pipes that block you) and continue up two more levels.

Once you reach the two tall search lights, slide right and try to grab onto the right one quickly before the Propeller Droids catch up to you. Hoist yourself straight up and onto the ledge above. You should pass 3 levels and reach another tall search light. Grab this one and again aim for the corner of the roof as before.

If you can grab the corner you should be able to again dodge the blockade above (in this case Blue Barrels). Climb up two levels and slide left under the enemy that is firing at you. Proceed up 3 levels and run into the Comm Room that you see. (This should be the second Comm Room). Entering this Comm Room is important. Unless you Contact HQ the door to the Siege Machine Boss will not open. You don't have to spend much time here. Simply enter the room hit up to access the Terminal. Hit A as quick as you can to Contact HQ and then immediately hit B to leave before listening to any dialog.

Leave the room, slide left just a bit, Climb, and bypass this foot soldier. I like to hug the left side of this platform as I'm coming up so that I can angle my shot to the next platform. From here you will continue to make a sort of a zig zag pattern (Up, Up, R, L, R, R, L, Up) after passing the soldier, and make your way all the way to the top. If you time it right you can avoid getting hit by the Propellor Droid that spawns here, or you might be able to take him out with your Iron Boots. If you can enter the opened door leading to the boss within one minute and thirty, the achievement should pop during the hexagon loading sequence.

  • Acquire at least one star in each of the Challenge Rooms 1 - 56.

Once you enter each of the Safe Areas, you can enter the red Challenge Rooms. After you enter the Challenge Rooms for each Safe Area, you can either knock out the challenges at that time or can later access the challenges from the Main Menu.

Simply completing each of the challenges within the timeframe net you at least a One Star Rating. If you are able to complete the challenges in shorter amounts of time you will get higher ratings and better Leaderboard placement.

There are 7 Safe Zones, Areas 13 - 19 that contain 8 Challenges a piece.

There are also 7 Secret Challenges scattered throughout the game, but completing them are not required for the achievement.

  • Hack through all the hacking games on Hard.

The Hacking Games are located in each of the Comm Rooms located throughout Areas 01 - 12. Successfully hacking a terminal will net you information about the upcoming boss as well as a ton of Health and Score Powerups.

If you are unsuccessful at hacking a terminal an alarm will sound and a number of additional enemies will spawn from behind the narrow doors located throughout the level. Regardless of whether you are successful the first time or not, you can continue to hack the terminal until you successfully solve the puzzle. Successfully hacking a previously failed terminal will not reset the alarm but should still count for the achievement.

The Hacking Puzzles on Hard have a bit larger playing field and are also timed. After a short period of inactivity, the alarm will sound and you will have to try and rehack the puzzle.

The following is a full list of the Comm Rooms for each level:
    Area 01: 2
    Area 04: 1
    Area 05: 2
    Area 06: 1
    Area 03: 1
    Area 02: 1
    Area 08: 2
    Area 09: 1
    Area 07: 1
    Area 10: 1
    Area 11: 1
    Area 12: 1

Thank you for your help with these numbers Mr. Greenfish.

According to mikehasabat, it sounds as if this achievement is stackable with the Super Hard difficulty. In other words, you can knock out Ha><0rz and Elite Commando at the same time on Super Hard rather than during two seperate play throughs.

  • Acquire all database logs.

The Database Logs include all of the Locations, Equipment, Enemies, Hazards, Bosses, Plot Elements, Environment, and Technology entries. The bulk of these entries will unlock after clearing all of the main levels 01 -12 and the Safe Zones 13 - 19. Keep in mind that some of the database entries will be located behind locked doors, hidden areas, and within the hidden tunnels throughout the game.

Simply grabbing a powerup, killing an enemy, encountering a boss or hazard will all unlock these entries in the database. Unlocked entries will be marked red, locked entries will be marked as grey question marks.

Not all of the entries can be found while playing on Easy. The Propellor Droid on Level 5 is one such example. Thanks BTHR Zero X!

  • Clear the game on Super Hard.

To unlock the Super Hard Difficulty, you must first complete the game. It doesn't appear to be linked to completing a specific difficulty first. Thank you drno for clarifying that.

Nabbing this achievement is going to be no small task. Capcom/Grin really ups the ante in terms of difficulty here. The enemy AI is extremely agressive, fires 3 times as much, 3 times as fast, can shoot at angles, can lob grenades, and have roughly 5 times as much health as before. The Bosses are much faster, shoot roughly 5 times as many rounds and have roughly 5-6 times as much health as compared to easy (health bar is the same size but it takes much longer to deplete).

As far as specific strategies for Super Hard: which levels to complete first, which weapons to use where, strategies for finishing the levels and associated bosses, check this thread:
