Introduction:
Welcome to Beowulf. The game has 31 achievements, all of them pretty easy for an average player. The game itself is quite short (around 7 hours in “Legend” difficulty) but it does require to be played twice. The reason why you have to play this game twice is that from chapter 5 you have to decide which kind of ability you want to develop (Carnal or Heroic) and one playthrough only will not grant you all the necessary upgrades to develop both abilities at the same time, So just pick one and stick to it. When you are done with the first playthrough you’you will be forced to start the game over again and play until you get enough tokens to develop the other ability. To get tokens for one ability you simply have to use this ability. For example, the more you use Carnal Fury, the more carnal tokens you get at the end of the chapter. If you kill bosses while in Carnal Fury, you’ll get a 7 tokens bonus. If you complete a set of 5 carnal runes (the red ones) you’ll get a bonus of 4 tokens. That’s why I also recommend collecting runes in both playthroughs. They are not difficult to find and is a big boost for your development.
Let’s see in detail the best way to get the full 1K.
Playthrough 1:
Start the game in “Legend”, leaving the “Thane” difficulty for the second playthrough. From chapter 5 you have to decide whether developing the Heroic ability or the Carnal ability. For this first playthrough I strongly recommend the Carnal ability since it comes in handy in situations in which you have to fight hordes of enemies. Don’t forget you are playing in “Legend” so some battles, especially against bosses, can be pretty hard to win without this ability. Be careful tough to don’t kill your own fellow soldiers while in Carnal rage since Beowulf, blinded by his own fury, doesn’t make any difference between enemies of friends, and he may hit or kill his allies. If all your allies die, is game over. Other than that, Carnal Rage has more plus than cons so I’d just recommend you to stick to it using it as much as you can and harvest carnal tokens. You’ll be able to get all the carnal upgrades before fighting Hela way before the end of the game. Use this playthrough to get out of the way most achievements you can, finding every collectible, freeing all the prisoners and getting all the carnal and heroic runes on your way to the final boss.
Playthrough 2 and cleaning up:
By now, you should have only few achievements left, beside the ones related to your heroic abilities. You now know the road so get back to work. Pressing “continue” after the end of the previous playthrough will lead to nothing, so the only thing to do here is to start over. Play in Thane difficulty and from chapter 5 onward, decide to develop the Heroic ability, using Heroism as much as you can, especially against bosses; collect again all the blue runes to get more tokens. You would be able to get all the Heroic tokens before the battle with Hela, and most probably this will be your last achievement. That’s why I wrote you need to do 1 and half playthrough: as you did most of the job on your first playthrough, the second one doesn’t need to be completed entirely.
Conclusion:
Beowulf is an overall very easy 1000. The game itself is pretty enjoyable if you close an eye about its many glitches and some exhausting battles. Have fun!
