There are 48 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Clear Marco's main scenario in the story mode.

All of these story achievements are unlocked by just finishing the main story mode with each character named in the achievement description. There are multiple story branches for each character, and you have to stay with the main branch to unlock these, as far as I know, and the easiest way to do so is to not lose at least until you get to the final enemy or two of your story mode. I did this and got all of the story achievements.

  • There are hidden colors for each character.

For this achievement, you need to get at least a 90% completion of EVERY character's story mode. When you go to the story mode character select screen and highlight someone, it says how much of the story you have complete with that character. Getting over 90/100% does NOT mean just beating story mode once. Getting 90% completion requires you to win AND lose each battle at least once as well as getting all of the different story branches with each character. When a battle flashes "GACHI BATTLE" in the middle of the screen before a battle, that means that is a battle which can branch the story off or trigger a special event, depending on conditions; be it win or lose the battle, finish with a certain move, etc.

Here's a better breakdown of how to get special events and story branches (if there's a list of characters with commas between them, that means you have to meet that condition against all of the characters in that list):

These conditions will put you on an entirely different story branch:

Ashley vs Coyori: Taunt at least once.
Cedric vs Marco: Adjust your glasses five times (QCB+Taunt)
Coyori vs Freed: Throw pie in Freed's face five times (throw him)
Deathbringer vs Watson: Finish with Final Inferno (Double Quarter Circle Forward A/C)
Dokurod vs Coyori: Taunt immediately after you beat Coyori
Donvalve vs Coyori: Use Hip-de-don (Quarter Circle Back B/D) at least once and finish with any super
Face vs Urs: Use Texas Knee (Dragon Punch B/D) at least five times
Freed vs Marco: Use Magnum Jetter (Charge Back, Forward A/C) at least five times
Marco vs Olivia: Finish with Dyna Rush (Double Quarter Circle Forward A/C)
Olivia vs Coyori: Use Standing D or Crouching D at least ten times and finish the battle with that attack as well.
Watson vs Cedric: Finish with Hip-de-Bunny (Down B while in air)
Urs vs Olivia: Win by timeout

And special events will be triggered by meeting the conditions:

    Ashley: Varies
Main branch: Olivia - use Steal Your Heart (Half Circle Back A/C) at least once
Second branch: Donvalve, Cedric, Watson, Marco, and Face - finish with any super; and Urs - finish with Air Romance Wing (Heat Up, Quarter Circle Forward A/B/C/D in air)

    Cedric has none.

Coyori: Use Storm Cat (Double Quarter Circle Forward B/D, mash B/D) and mash it until you get at least 15 hits at least once
    Common to both branches: Marco

    Deathbringer: Varies
Main branch: Donvalve - finish with Final Strike (Heat Up and land three sword attacks); Urs and Marco - win by time out

    Dokurod has none.

    Donvalve has none.

Face: Finish with Quickshot (Heat Up, Quarter Circle Back/Forward A/B/C/D)
Both Branches: Olivia, Ashley, Face, Freed

    Freed: Finish with any super
Second branch: Donvalve, Urs, Cedric, Deathbringer

Marco: Finish with a Dyna Rush
    Main branch: Ashley
Second branch: Freed, Donvalve, Face, Urs, and Dokurod

Olivia: Use Shall We Dance? five times and finish with any super
    Second branch: Cedric, Dokurod

    Watson: Finish with any super
    Main branch: Dokurod

    Urs has none.
  • Clear arcade mode.

These are all pretty self-explanatory. Just beat arcade mode with any character under the conditions listed in the achievement description.
  • Clear arcade mode on the HARD difficulty setting.

  • Just keep winning in survival mode!

Self-explanatory, the descriptions are here. My only advice is to obviously use your best character, but also keep in mind that you gain about 1/3 of your life bar back every time you win and your super gauges carry over between battles if you don't use them in your current battle, they'll still be there in the next battle. Use these things to make up a strategy as to when to use your supers/heat ups and especially against whichever characters you have the most trouble with. And like most survival modes, it gets progressively harder as you go, so don't think this is a cake-walk after you've beaten the first 10 enemies.

  • Clear time attack mode as fast as you can!

These are also rather self-explanatory. My advice is again to obviously use your best character and preferably one that does a lot of damage in a short amount of time, and keep in mind your super gauges start fully charged at the beginning of every battle. Use this very much to your advantage or you'll never get that 6 minute mark.

  • Let's battle using Xbox LIVE!

These are pretty obvious. The game has been out for a while now in Japan so most of them don't play online very often anymore, and the game has ZERO distribution in America, so unless you know some friends or hook up with some people from x360a here, you'll have a hard time accomplishing much online.

  • Let's fill up the gallery!

To unlock the gallery, the easiest way is to play story mode, since you unlock at least 2 pictures every time you beat the game with someone, no matter what. Fulfilling the special conditions to fulfill some of the secret achievements will also net you a few extra pictures, but we'll get into that later in the guide. If you're going for the "Color Collector" achievement, you'll probably have most, if not all of these by the time you get that achievement, since many of the other pictures are unlocked through the different story branches.

  • You can't damange the End of Deathbringer without Heating Up, but you can still beat him!

Ok, this achievement and the next one are a REAL pain and what will keep most really good players from getting 1000/1000 in this game. These "separate the men from the boys," so to speak. For this achievement, you must fight the final form of Deathbringer in arcade mode (officially named The End of Deathbringer) and finish him off without being in Heat Up mode. The difficulty you're on does not affect this achievement.

Thanks to panicky, we have a fairly easy solution to this achievement.

"Easy way to get this would be to pick Freed and wail on him like you usually would, when his HP is in the 1-2k range you should heat up and use the Magnum Jetter about 2 seconds before heat up expires, the first attack should kill DB, heat up will run out but the After image for him will still land a hit which will unlock the achievement."
  • Can you survive the Apocalypse Flame?

This one is the big daddy here, and there's a good reason its worth 100gs.

    To get the achievement:

You have to Gachi (counter/parry) all 22 hits of the Apocalypse Flame and then finish End of Deathbringer with a perfect victory (taking no damage at all) on VERY HARD difficulty.

Japanese players have even figured this out to a science, since after you parry the first hit of the AF, you have to parry at a speed that is the equivalent of the musical BPM (beats per minute) of 212. Just to prove this can be done, I'll post a video of it being done here. Watch in dismay as this guy completely wrecks End of Deathbringer from beginning to end. I wish luck to anyone who attempts this, but the method of doing it is very clear.

The video is here. Scroll all the way down to the very bottom of the page to the 2nd embedded video and click the little button near the bottom to start playing.

Secret achievements

  • In single-player arcade mode, finish off a female opponent with Marco's throw.

A lot of these are pretty obvious from the description after you unlock them, but I'll clarify a little more if its needed. Also keep in mind all button commands are done in in-game format where these do not apply to buttons on the 360 controller, but the buttons in the game instead. If it were mapped on to the default 360 controller it would be:

    360 X button: A
    360 A button: B
    360 Y button: C
    360 B button: D
  • Outside of training mode, use Urs's taunt repeatedly to enter Heat Up mode.

Just hold down the taunt button without getting hit for about 6-7 seconds and he'll enter heat up mode.
  • In the single-player arcade mode, finish Face off with Marco's throw.

  • In the single-player arcade mode, hit with Donvalve's strongest swing, Don Don Swing.

This HAS to be his SUPER Don Don Swing (where the name pops up on the screen) and you HAVE to keep the rotation going until he flies all the way up in the air off of the screen and then throws the enemy down to the ground.
  • In the single-player arcade mode, end a battle with Olivia's Shall We Dance?

This is a little tricky, since her "Shall We Dance" move only does 1 solitary point of damage. The best thing is to just shave off their heath with her A or B moves since they only usually do about 25-39 damage per hit, and when you get to any number under 10, you want to start using Shall We Dance over and over again until they die. This move is a throw, so you have to be touching the other person and it is executed with a HCB+C/D.
  • In single-player arcade mode, use Cedric's Nose Glasses against the End of Deathbringer.

    See: "The Ultimate Taunt"

Ok, now last but certainly not least, the combo achievements. These are easily the hardest skill-based achievements in the game outside of the two End of Deathbringer ones, so you're going to have to be pretty damn good at the game to get these, and having a 360 arcade stick helps a lot for doing a lot of the more complicated moves.

Before we get started, I'll post a link again to the page which has a video showing someone doing all of these achievements. You have to watch VERY closely and watch every tiny millisecond of timing in those videos and even the placement of the characters on the stage can affect whether the timing works out right or not.

Also, if you see the person doing a move to start off the combo where they rush the opponent and the opponent goes flying through the air, that's a Gachi move, and if you're attempting these in practice mode, you have to make sure to turn your opponent's AI to "Gachi Drive" and then execute a Forward+Gachi Button to start off that combo. Also, always remember to activate heat up first, or these combos don't work.

Study these videos like CRAZY to get the timing and other fine details down right, because some of it is so much easier to just watch than it is to try and explain.

Video is here. Scroll all the way to the bottom and when you see the last video, scroll up to the second to last video and click the little button to start.
  • In single-player arcade mode, finish off Watson with Donvalve's throw.

  • Outside of training mode, use Cedric's Nose Glasses.

Just keep doing Cedric's QCB+Taunt move where he changes glasses until he pulls out the black glasses with eyebrows and a big nose. You can actually get this and the Marxist achievement at the same time if you do this during a fight with End of Deathbringer. This might take a while, but just keep doing it.
  • Finish off Olivia with Ashley's Steal Your Heart in single-player arcade mode.

This move is his HCB+C/D move where he grabs them and then drops them. This is a throw, so you must be right next to the opponent.
  • In the single-player arcade mode, end a battle with Deathbringer's Final Strike.

To do Final Strike, enter heat up mode and then just connect with any 3 direct sword slashes to activate the move. You have to plan out the battle well so they end up with little enough life to die from the final strike, but its a little hard to do since Deathbringer does so much damage even with small hits. And for the move itself, they have to actually be sword slashes, his weak punch does not count, where he hits them with his hand. All 3 hits have to connect within the one heat up session for it to work, and DB's heat up seems to last less time than most other characters'.
  • Get a 40+ hit combo with Watson.

There are a few ways to do this, but the way I did this was I started with going into heat up mode, then doing QCB+C twice, even though you need to do it 3 times to actually start his heat-up special, only do it twice. Make sure you do them very quickly, and then immediately after the 2nd one, do his QCF+D attack to send out a little thing that will start biting him in the behind to build up your combo. Wait til that thing hits the enemy either 8 or 9 times, and then do the final QCB+C to start the heat up attack. Wait a few seconds for all those meteors to hit him and then try to time it near the end-ish of those meteors, start his QCFx2+C attack to do the final push of the combo. I got a 43 hit combo, the way I timed it. Good luck.
  • Get a 50+ hit combo with Coyori.

Combo order: Hold down+AAABC > QCFx2+A > QCBx2+B then jam buttons as much as you can.

Start with the few ducking attacks then stand up in the middle of that combo, but right as the final hit of that standing regular combo ends, you have to be doing the movements for the Crazy Cat Dance super move already, and after you do that and it finishes most of the hits, you need to start the Cat Storm movements. This is where it gets a little crazy, because Cat Storm hits more times depending on how much you jam on the buttons. And to get over 30 hits out of this move, you have to go absolutely crazy on your controller, and I'll wager to say this is actually impossible on a regular 360 controller, you need an arcade stick. You have to jam on EVERY button on the controller, including the d-pad/analog to get as many hits as you need, and you just can't hit buttons on a regular controller layout as fast as you need to for this move. If anyone is able to pull this off with a regular controller without a turbo button controller, I would be extremely shocked.
  • Get a 30+ hit combo with Urs.

    Combo order: Gachi > Jump+C > QCB+B > A > QCB+B > A > QCB+B > QCFx2+A

Make sure you're all the way to the right side just like the video. Make sure you wait a pretty decent amount of time for the opponent to fall before doing the next tackle, otherwise you won't get as many hits out of the tackle each of the three times you do it. The final super that you have to do is VERY hard to get the timing down for, and the rest of the combo is easy in comparison.
  • Get a 20+ hit combo with Freed.

    Combo order: Gachi > Jump+B > QCFx2+B > Charge B then F+C > QCFx2+B

This is a lot harder than it looks on video, since you only technically have to connect with 4 hits, but the timing on them is very crucial. My best pointers besides studying the video is that MAKE SURE your character placement on the stage is just like in the video when you start the combo or it WILL NOT work. For this one, you being close to the exact distance in the video allows the opponent to bounce off the far wall from the gachi attack and go higher than normally which allows you to pull off the long-range (C button) Magnum Jetter after the first Heat My Justice. All about timing, period.
  • Get a 60+ hit combo with Odile and Dokurod.

    Combo order: Gachi > Diagonal Jump+C then land > Jump+C > Jump > QCFx2+B

Character placement is VITAL to getting this to work correctly, so study the video closely. After the first diagonal jump and C hit, let yourself land on the ground, then immediately jump straight up and hit C again, then RIGHT after that hit, push up once more to jump in mid-air and then start the movement for the Grand Pirouette super right away. Timing is very very hard.
