Introduction:
The sequel to the 2009 GOTY, Batman Arkham Asylum. Unlike its predecessor, Arkham City allows Batman to roam free in his environment. The open world experience compliments the gameplay by giving one the freedom necessary to reign terror on the villains and thugs that are encountered throughout the game. There are many villains taking up the star roles, however there are even more in the side quests which will take up most of your time, especially the Riddler Trophies/Riddles.

Step 1, Story:
Play through the story and experience everything that the game has to offer. Play on Normal or Hard in order to unlock New Game+. You can work on grabbing some of the easier Riddler things while you play, but you will need all your gadgets to get the final ones and it is easier to do this post-game, so you may as well wait. Same goes for side-quests. See Step 2.

Step 2, Side-Quests/Collectibles:
After beating the game you are allowed to free roam the city. Use this time to do all the side missions, collect all the Trophies/Riddles and do all the physical challenges.

Step 3, New Game+:
Play through the game one more time but this time the difficulty is basically Very Hard Mode. Enemies are smarter, they have better weapons and equipment, much more difficult encounters, challenging boss fights and to top it all off no counter attack indicator. However, you do start with all your gadgets and power ups so no need to fret.

Step 4, Challenges:
Complete all of the Riddler's Revenge challenges to gain 100% completion in the game, and this should also round out your original 1000 Gamerscore.

 Catwoman Bundle DLC

The Catwoman Bundle Pack includes a few interim chapters to the story that adds some filler, allows you to free roam Arkham City, and play as her in the Challenges and Campaigns.

Catwoman plays very differently to Batman, which makes navigating Arkham City a bit of a chore and adds a brand new level of difficulty to the challenge mode. Be sure to take some time to learn how she works, especially her grapple jumps.

Step 1: Story Mode (2 achievements 50)
If you've had the Catwoman DLC from the beginning of the game, these will come naturally as you play through the main game with Batman. If you got the DLC after the fact, you can use a chapter select function and play through her segments.

Step 2: Story Mode mop-up (2 achievements for 50)
After you complete the main game you'll be able to switch freely between Catwoman and Batman. Catwoman has one postgame mission that consists of beating up specially marked thugs, and then her own set of Riddler trophies to collect.

Step 3: Challenges and Campaigns (2 achievements 50)
Now for the hardest part, the Challenges and Campaigns. All the maps are identical to Batman's, but the way she plays makes it an entirely different task.

For Combat Challenges with bosses, Catwoman lacks any electric attacks to keep the Twins at bay, so the best approach is to just pound on them and jump over them when you're in trouble; if thugs are giving you trouble, use Whip Trip (+) to give you some breathing room. Titans are still manageable with Ultra Stun (), but Catwoman can't rodeo them to weaken other henchmen and pump up your score, so you'll need to prioritize Titans or they'll harass you the entire time.

At times she seems uncooperative and unwilling to do what you want, but with enough persistence and practice you'll be able to complete these.

Robin Bundle Pack

The Robin Bundle Pack  is very basic and straightforward, as Robin is only made available in the challenge modes. The DLC comes with two new Challenge maps and one new Campaign, which are tied into the achievements.

Step 1: Challenges and Campaigns (2 achievements for 50)
Robin is fairly similar to Batman, with a few less toys but a few unique tricks, so if you've completed these with Batman then you shouldn't have too much trouble here. Don't forget to complete his DLC maps as well.
Like Catwoman he lacks an electric attack for the Twins in Combat Challenges, so you'll need to just hammer away at them and dodge when necessary; you can use Explosive Gel (+) or Group Attack (+) to clear out thugs that are crowding you.

A few of his Predator medals require some intricate setups, particularly using Explosive Gel to take out multiple henchmen, so use videos to learn the best way to set these situations up. Power through these and the achievements are all yours.

Nightwing Bundle Pack DLC

Nightwing is the final playable character released for the game and the DLC comes with two new maps and one new Campaign, which loosely tie into his whereabouts during the events of Arkham City.

Step 1: Challenges and Campaigns (2 achievements for 50)
Pretty much self-explanatory, just complete the main game Challenges and Campaigns, as well as his specific DLC content, to unlock the achievements.

Nightwing plays quite differently to Batman and Robin, mostly due to his inability to glide. It can make dismantling from vantage points quite difficult. He shares a few gadgets with Batman but has a few unique ones, such as the Dart Gun for an instant KO, that can be quite useful in Predator Challenges.

Nightwing does have an electric attack (+) that can stun the Twins in Combat Challenges, but it's one of his combo attacks which makes it slightly difficult to use consistently. Still, it makes them a little less difficult to manage since the attack grants invisibility during the animation.

Just like Robin there's a few Predator medals that are quite difficult to set up, and even worse there's a degree of luck to one of them (Triple Ricochet), so follow a video guide to learn how to make these as manageable as possible. Prove you've truly mastered these maps and modes and you'll bank these achievements.

Harley Quinn's Revenge

Harley Quinn's Revenge is a bit of story related content set after the main game. It features Robin as a playable character, and allows you to use his unique gadgets to get around an enclosed environment. It's a refreshing change of pace after playing the challenge modes multiple times over, but sadly the content is quite short and doesn't contribute much to the story, making it a rather forgettable experience.

Step 1: Story Mode (10 achievements for 250)
There are a lot of missable achievements because there is no postgame, requiring a restart of the content should you miss anything. However, three of the six missable achievements are combat-based, which should come naturally if you completed the challenge DLCs.

The three achievements you really need to look out for are "Snap To It", "Bomb Squad" and "Party's Over". "Snap To It" is easy to get if you keep it in mind, while a convenient glitch takes the difficulty out of "Bomb Squad". Refer to the guide for specifics on these achievements.

If you missed anything, just start again. The content is really short so it won't take long to mop-up. Enjoy your easy 250.

Conclusion:
The biggest keys to this game are learning the controls and timing. Once you have those down, the full 1500 can easily be yours with a few hours of effort.

  • Collect enough evidence to locate the gun for hire

    See "Contract Terminated".

  • Stop the contract operative

This side-quest (Shot in the Dark) should trigger early in the game as you pass the location marked "1" on the map below. Once you finish that, the next portion begins at "4" and you will follow along as such. If you are having trouble triggering the other locations, try again later once you get further in the story or reload the city by entering and leaving a building or quitting to the menu and starting the game up again.

  • Track down the serial killer

This side-quest (Identity Thief) is quite a bit harder to trigger. You need to basically be standing on top of the body for the game to register you've found it. Again, follow the numbers on the map below to proceed through the questline. If you are having trouble triggering the other locations try again later once you get further in the story or reload the city by entering and leaving a building or quitting to the menu and starting the game up again.

  • Reveal the mystery watcher

The Mystery Watcher appears at the locations below, which correspond to the numbers on the map. If you miss seeing him, you can return at any time to find him standing there - the achievement is not missable. If he is not there, try exiting and reloading the game. During the story, he only shows up in this specific order and you will need to speak with him at one to make him move to the next. Post-game, he will sort of be at all the locations at once and you can do them in any order.

    1. As soon as you leave the Courthouse for the first time, he is on the building across from you.
    2. After leaving the Steel Mill, he can be found at the top of the ferris wheel.
    3. Finishing up at Wonder City and exiting from the Subway you will be told to interrogate someone. During the cutscene the Mystery Watcher can be seen on the building opposite of you.
    4. Revisiting the GCPD for the second time he can be seen, again, on the building opposite from you.

After finding him at the four locations above, your map will open and you will need to enlarge and rotate the symbols to fit the four points you spoke with him at. Doing so will reveal the fifth location, marked with a "5" in the map. Head there to finish the quest (Watcher in the Wings).

  • Answer the call for help

    See "Broken Toys".

  • Destroy it all

After leaving the Steel Mill for the first time you will be notified of this mission (Fragile Alliance). This mission is near the water in the building next to the big cranes with the giant bear on top. This is a very straight forward mission as all the objectives are marked on your map and you pass by them all during the story. The final one will only be available late in the story. Destroy the objectives with your explosive gel.

  • Answer a ringing phone

    See "Dial Z For Murder".

  • Stop the phone booth killer

The telephone encounters for this quest (Cold Call Killer) are entirely random, just pay attention to your Local Surveillance box. Once you hear a phone ringing, hunt it down. You'll then have to rush to a second phone and follow around his tracing signal with your thumbstick. Once you trace the call and reveal his location, enter his hideout to subdue the killer.

  • Time is running out

Alfred will contact you with a side mission where he sends you supplies from the Batwing. Get to the drop point and finish the mission (Through the Looking Glass).

  • Reunite the separated couple

After submitting to you, Victor Fries will ask for your help finding Nora. Go to the area by the large cranes near Joker's Fun Land. Make a raft on the water, pull yourself to the destructible wall and take it down with the explosive gel. Go inside, take out the goons and return to Victor to let him know she is safe and finish the quest (Heart of Ice).

  • Complete all augmented reality training exercises

Complete all eight AR Training exercises to unlock the achievement. The first four unlock on your way to the Steel Mill for the first time, and completing them unlocks the grapnel boost upgrade which allows you to glide indefinitely by grappling from building to building without ever touching the ground. The trick to the advanced exercises is to time your dives properly. Stopping the dive early by letting go of the trigger and barely pulling back helps make it through the tight corridors. The video below contains all the exercises.

  • Collect all of Batman's gadgets and upgrades

You must level up and purchase all the upgrades for Batman. You will be provided all but 3 gadgets. One is available for pickup up after you finish up at the Museum. Another one is not available until the second time that you visit the Steel Mill. The last one requires that you complete the first four AR Training exercises. You will be notified of the side mission when a new gadget is available. The code to hack TYGER security terminals is considered a gadget as well, you will get this at the end of the game.

You must complete the "Bargaining Chip" achievement to unlock the gadget from the Steel Mill.

  • Stop all assaults in Arkham City

Ever vigilant, stop all 16 random crimes in Arkham City (Arkham Assault). A crime is taking place when you are picking up hostile chatter in the Local Surveillance feed. Use detective mode to track who is talking, then knock out the henchman to free the Political Prisoner. The map will sometimes display a pulsing hexagon in the location of a crime even when you're not close enough to hear the chatter, so check your map often.

  • Solve the first riddle

The church will be taken over by the Riddler after you leave the Steel Mill. Pay a visit to the church to have your first encounter with him. Scan the organ at the back of the room to solve the riddle.

After this encounter you will be able to interrogate green riddler goons for information which will show where Riddler Trophies and Riddles are on your map.

  • Rescue the first hostage from Riddler

You do not need to collect any Riddler Trophies for this hostage to be available.

  • Rescue the second hostage from Riddler

You need to collect 80 Riddler Trophies for this hostage to be available.

  • Rescue the third hostage from Riddler

You need to collect 160 Riddler Trophies for this hostage to be available.

  • Rescue the fourth hostage from Riddler

You need to collect 240 Riddler Trophies for this hostage to be available.

  • Rescue the fifth hostage from Riddler

You need to collect 320 Riddler Trophies for this hostage to be available.

  • Genius

    50

Rescue all the hostages from Riddler

You need to collect 400 Riddler Trophies for this hostage to be available.

Note: The Catwoman trophies go toward your total count as well; there are a total of 440 if you have her DLC.

  • Obtain 24 medals on the original Arkham City ranked maps (as Batman)

    See "Gold Revenge".

  • Obtain 48 medals on the original Arkham City ranked maps (as Batman)

    See "Gold Revenge".

  • Obtain all 72 medals on the original Arkham City ranked maps (as Batman)

Perform well enough to unlock the Gold medal on all 24 Arkham City ranked maps as Batman. To unlock these maps, you will have to collect Riddler trophies during the main game. See "Genius" for more info on those.

There are twelve Combat challenges which are fairly easy. Focus more on keeping your flow going than throwing in a lot of variation. You're more likely to make a mistake trying to throw an explosive gel down than just using attacks, dodges and counters. When the titans show up, jump over them to confuse them for a few seconds. Against either of the twins, continually beat them and use Bat Swarm whenever possible to keep the other goons off you. You'll get your combo extremely high by the time they die and rack up the points.

The twelve Predator challenges are slightly more difficult. You'll have to perform three specific tasks in each map, all during the same attempt. Press  at any time to view their requirements. Not too many tips I can give for these, the videos in the link below do better justice than words can.

Click here for a complete video guide to these challenges.

Note: Because he was playing on Easy difficulty, PowerPyx had the ability to recharge his smoke pellets. If you're playing on a harder difficulty, you'll need to slightly alter your play style compared to what he does in some situations.

  • Obtain 36 medals on the original Arkham City campaigns (as Batman)

    See "Campaign Gold"

  • Obtain 72 medals on the original Arkham City campaigns (as Batman)

    See "Campaign Gold".

  • Obtain all 108 medals on the original Arkham City campaigns (as Batman)

Perform well enough to unlock the Gold medal on all 12 Arkham City campaigns as Batman. To unlock these maps, you will have to collect Riddler trophies during the main game. See "Genius" for more info on those.

The campaigns are a combination of previous Combat and Predator challenges. They come in sets of three, with three medals to earn in each section for nine total in each. You have the ability to retry up to three times if you fail to get all three medals on a section, because you'll need all nine medals in one run for each.

You are also given a set of mutators that will alter the gameplay which must all be used at some point during the campaign. You can use up to three in a single section so if you feel confident about a section you can use a bunch to get them out of the way early, making a harder one down the line a little easier.

Click here for a complete video guide to these challenges.

  • Complete one combat challenge without taking damage (any character)

This is relatively easy, though if you are having trouble just keep tapping , to jump over enemies without getting hit. Remember to counter often and use special takedowns to remove enemies completely. The first challenge is likely the easiest to do this on.

  • Complete New Game Plus

You must complete the game on Normal or Hard to unlock New Game Plus. You can start this playthrough from its own icon on the main menu. Side Missions are not required for this achievement, though they are for "Perfect Knight - Day 2" so you should work on them while you play through again.

  • Jump off the tallest building in Arkham City and glide for 1 minute without touching the ground

You must climb the Wonder Tower during the main story, but you can return post-game to do this as well. Climb on top of the Wonder Tower, jump off and glide around for one minute. Power Grappling does not stop the glide, but you can simply hit the edge of the Restricted Zone to be turned around and push back up in the air to glide indefinitely.

  • A moment of remembrance

In Crime Alley next to Finnigan's Bar, press  near the chalk outlines of your parents. Wait for over one minute until the achievement unlocks. If you move before it unlocks, you will need to start over. The spot you're looking for is in the video below.

  • Have 12 murderous dates with Calendar Man

To get this early you can do it offline. If you want to get an online time stamp for the achievement then you will have to connect to XBL as soon as you engage conversation with him on the last date or do all of them except the one that is closest to the current date and then complete it on that date.

Calendar Man is found in the basement of the Courthouse and can be visited at the beginning of the game. Speak to Calendar Man on each of the following dates that can be found on the calendar in his cell. You must exit the building in order for the achievement progress to save. If done correctly you will notice the next time you speak to him the date is scribbled off the calender. It will take approximately 30 minutes to complete if you do it offline and simply change your console's clock to each of the following dates:

    10/31/2011 - Halloween
    11/24/2011 - Thanksgiving
    12/25/2011 - Christmas
    1/1/2012 - New Years Day
    2/14/2012 - Valentines Day
    3/17/2012 - St. Patrick's Day
    4/1/2012 - April Fools
    5/13/2012 - Mothers Day
    6/17/2012 - Fathers Day
    7/4/2012 - Independence Day
8/16/2012 - Feast Day of St. Roch
    9/3/2012 - Labor Day

Dates are subject to change according to the year.

  • Find someone to play remote Batarang catch with

You must throw the remote Batarang at the Mystery Watcher that you encounter multiple times in the game. This can be missed the first time through however it can still be done in New Game+ right from the start since you have all the gadgets. If you miss it both times then a new save will be required thus classifying this achievement as missable.

You can see the Catch achievement in the first 30 seconds of the Mystery Stalker video.

  • Complete a combo of 50 moves (any play mode, any character)

This achievement can be done at many different times throughout the game but is easiest done during a sequence like the one in the video below. It is best to get the FreeFlow Focus Combat upgrade to increase movement speed and reaction times as well as the Critical Strikes upgrade that increases the combo by x2 for each successful hit.

  • Perform a perfect combo including all of Batman's combat moves (any play mode)

Really the only skill-oriented achievement. You must unlock and perform all the moves at Batman's disposal in one unbroken combo. This can be done anywhere that you fight goons. It is highly recommended that you unlock Special Combo Boost to decrease the requirement for Special Combos from x8 to x5 and Critical Strikes to get a higher combo easier.

    The exact moves required are:

    Basic moves

    • Evade (,)
    • Strike ()
    • Counter ()
    • Stun ()
    • Ultra Stun (,,)
    • Aerial Attack (,,+ forward)

    Combos

    • Special Combo Multi Ground Takedown (+) - must have at least 1 enemy dazed on the ground before doing this or it wont count
    • Special Combo Disarm and Destroy (+) - Can be done against people who are holding any object such as a knife or sledge hammer
    • Special Combo Bat Swarm (+)
    • Special Combo Takedown (+)

    Finishers

    • Ground Pound (+) - Used to finish off an enemy when they are dazed on the ground
    • Beat Down Finisher ( repeatedly)

The easiest level seems to be the "Survival of the Fittest" Combat challenge. There are just enough enemies to perform all the required moves in all of the last three rounds so you have a few shots at it without needing to restart.

  • Use 5 different Quickfire gadgets in one fight (any play mode)

You unlock the last combat gadget about 75% of the way through the game. Once you have all the gadgets you must use all of them during one encounter. It does not have to be in the same combo but it does need to hit an enemy.

    Batarang (tap
Bat Gel (++ again to detonate)
    Grapple (+
    Electrical Charge (+
    Freeze Blast (,)

  • Main Story, Side Missions, Upgrades, Collectables, New Game Plus and Riddlers Revenge (as Batman)

To 100% the game you will need the following done:

    • Complete the story on either Normal or Hard AND New Game +
    • Complete all side-missions on BOTH save files
    • Complete all 400 Riddler Challenges once (data is shared on both save files)
    • Obtain all Gadgets and Upgrades once (data is shared on both save files)
    • Obtain Gold on all Riddler's Revenge challenges (as Batman)

In other words: You will have two save files. One on either Normal or Hard difficulty and one for New Game Plus. You will need to complete the story twice, complete all side-missions twice, complete all 400 Riddler Challenges once, collect all Gadgets once, purchase all Upgrades once and complete all Riddler's Revenge challenges once.

For Riddler Challenge help, see the "Genius" achievement. For help on the Gadgets and Upgrades, see the "Fully Loaded" achievement. For Riddler's Revenge, you need all 72 Ranked medals and all 108 Campaign medals (as Batman), see "Gold Revenge" and "Campaign Gold" for help on those.

DLC: Catwoman Bundle Pack

There are 6 achievements with a total of 150 points

  • Complete all 40 of the Catwoman Riddler grid items

Much like collecting the green icons as Batman, the red ones found throughout Arkham City are to be collected with Catwoman (and in fact can't be collected as Batman). These are all much more straightforward than Batman's since she does not have any gadgets. While playing the story, keep interrogating the glowing green enemies, doing so will show the locations of these on the map.

  • Drop in on an old friend

Story related and can not be missed. This section is basically just a three-tiered combat challenge.

  • Steal the score of a lifetime

Story related and can not be missed. Use stealth to steal three keycards, return to the computer to unlock the vault, then proceed to knock out all the enemies, enter the vault and finish a large encounter.

  • Retrieve your stolen goods

After you finish the main story as Batman, this final section of Catwoman's story takes place. When you get to the Two-Face fight, the enemies will continually respawn until you take him out so just wait for him to be alone up top, knock him over and then just keep hitting him.

After that, the enemies with your loot will have a glowing diamond on them when you use thief vision. They can be found in the Bowery and Park Row areas of the city. Simply knock them out in any fashion to retrieve it and once you fill the red bar under your health the achievement will unlock.

If you didn't have the Catwoman DLC while playing the main story, you can do them at any time from a selection on the main menu of the game.

  • Obtain all 72 medals on the original Arkham City ranked maps (as Catwoman)

Catwoman's challenges are fairly similar to Batman's and are done on all the same maps. See this thread for videos.
